Will this void warrenty?

Hey Gang,

I work at a dealership here in California and I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 4x4 Diesel with 3.73 gears I want to install 4.10's (dodge factory parts) for the front and rears and have the dealership install them but when I inquired about it a service advisor from dodge told me I would void my 7 year/70K warrenty and my extended warrenty, even if the Dodge dealership and their certified mechanics install them. All they will do is offer me a one year warrenty

Any take on this?

Do you work at the Dodge dealer in question? If so, you might be SOL. But you can always try another dealer.

Did they say that they would void the entire drivetrain warranty, or just the part about the 1 year on differential(s)? Did you get the Extended Warranty from Dodge or from another independent provider?

If it was me, and the case of the differentials having the 1 year warranty after installation, I'd go for it - just make sure you've got enough of the correct oil in them.

Keep in mind that doing gears in not a mindless task, and unless the technician knows what they're doing, you're probably asking for extra gear noise. No offense, but an automobile dealership is the LAST place I'd want a knucklebusting gorilla to work on my differentials. In any event, take the service manager for a spin in the truck before hand, and near the middle of the ride ask him if he hears "the differentials", and when he says that he "doesn't hear a darn thing", say "thats what I expect the differentials to sound like when you're finished with the job".

It saves them the breath of saying "THEY ALL SOUND LIKE THAT". Been there done that.

I just had this done. My dealer told me as long as I use factory gear's and have them do it, it will not void anything. It was a hard hit paying the extra money for their part's and labor,,,,but the piece of mind is priceless,,, to me anyway.

Cost too much for the gain. The power and torque of the 05 motor should pull most enything with the 3.73. Might better work on getting the overdrive lockout put in.
