Will Smarty help me?

I have an 04.5 2500 six speed 160,000 miles less than 10,000 miles on new injectors with extrudehone 60 horse tips my mileage is about 12mpg prior to this I had factory injectors I got 16-17 but it was loaded with a welding machine and tooled out 10,910 pounds minus the welding rod now I dont have nothing on it but the bed which is not very heavy at all. I went with bigger injectors hoping to avoid swapping them out every 30 thousand miles bigger nozzels I would hope last longer with stock settings but I have been reading some about the smarty adjusting the fuel pressure and timing to get mileage and longevity from the injectors. Have any of the smarty users seen good results here? I am not looking for the extra power just some mileage and Injectors that last this is my fifth set, will it help me? Thanks

The Smarty is a wonderful thing.

As far as mileage goes, I think timing is your best friend as far as programming affects it. I don't think the Smarty raises rail pressure. It just increases duration of injector pulse and changes timing. Mine is an '04 with the 305 engine.

Your right foot has the biggest influence on mileage. Period. Slow down and keep the smoke invisible for best mileage.

Mine has 172,000 miles and stock injectors. Still runs just like the day I bought it new so I can't comment on injectors of a certain type lasting longer.

You are going to have to do some real world mileage calcs with actual fuel used over actual miles traveled before you can decide on a real number. The more miles you average it over and the more accurate you are with fuel used the better. Read the mileage on the computer as you do this to begin to see how far off it is. A change to bigger tires or bigger injectors will throw off the computer and it's readout.

This truck has been a good truck except for the injector issues being as it has the six speed you learn to take your time and drive like your dad (or at least mine) it would always run good then it would slowly start to fade mileage would drop then it would get a shake at idle mileage at this point would be about 6-7. this happened four times, I got religous about not leaving the house without filters kept a careful eye on the hand calcs watching for a dip in mileage. I thought maybe bigger injectors would have less pressure on the tip leading to longer life,of all the sets of injectors that have been swapped out they have all been scored one set was said to b warpped but ive never heard of that before? thanks

If you want to have long injector life........regardless of extra power adders...........you need to FILTER that fuel. I suggest a 2 micron filter between your stock filter housing and the CP3. Run 2 filters....your stock one and then a 2 micron CAT filter.

Filtration is the key, imo.

you can adjust rail pressure with REVO

I have been looking at the smarty to help with the timing to. will it get the injection events closer together? I would think if they were closer together and a little less pressure at the tip that might help all the way around just and idea I think

what I didnt mention that is the main reason for me asking "do I need a smarty" is when I am driving this I get a whole lot of smoke at low rpms like when your pulling onto the highway but when the turbo spools it will take off and clear up at about 1600 rpms but say your running at 65 about 2000 and you get in it, not stomp on it, just start getting in the pedal it will smoke like rigs Ive seen set up to pull sleds. Now dont get me wrong its fun to pass subarus, gun it and watch them swerve to dodge the smoke, but I am having a problem with my mileage I am leary to add a boost fooler and wonder if I could tinker with the timing to get my spool up a little sooner and find a way to keep all my diesel from going up in smoke any luck?

I have talked to some guys who have put boost foolers in their trucks and had head gasket problems? Common problem or a fluke? The truck is kinda a pain in the but to drive because you have to keep the turbo spooled a little or it will roll smoke,.....

Boost fooler and head gasket problems are not at all related unless the reason for the boost fooler was to take the boost beyond reasonable limits and that is what caused the failure.

I hate to tell you this, but in my opinion your loss of mileage is caused from your new tips. I know it is spendy, but you may be better off with the mileage tips from F1.

With your setup and goals, a smarty jr may be more appropriate.

It just seems to me that they put out way to much fuel at lower rpms, not to bad when your pulling though keep about 16+ pounds of boost it will carry the load pretty well. Who sells the smarty on here?

You will be able to adjust timing AND torque levels with the smarty. Doing this can calm your smoking issues. Can raise it too, you'll just have to mess with the setting to find the proper one for your rig ..

BOB Wagner is another fine gentlemen to deal with when it comes to the smarty.
