why is my mileage this low?

so this tank i was going for good mileage but only got 16..what am i doing wrong?

i tried it with smarty revo on sw7 tq3 tm4 and others defult. also drove easy almost the whole time, shifted at 2k and kept it between 1800 and 2100rpm at cruising speed. this was also all town driving and on only a 1/4 tank and also the turbo barely ever kicked in

so what am i doing wrong? what should i change to get better mileage?

16 mpg with 35" mud tires.
The only way you'll get better than that is to run it 65mph down the highway without stop and go.

X2

A low rolling resistance tire such as Toyo's HT 265/70-17's inflated to just below max psi got me my best mileage ever.

But on anything more serious than wet grass they suckhole you into using 4wd.

big tires take power to turn, no matter what speed you are running. rotational energy is harder to get moving, change directions and brake... that is a lot of unsprung mass.

the only way to make it better is to improve aerodynamics, lower your rolling resistance, and let off the throttle, your probably not going to get any better.

oh yea, you can decrease weight...

I think a set of highway tires would help you ALOT

intake and exhaust wont give returns worth anything for you

so your saying i should go back to the origional 365/75/17 tires that were previously on it or just take the loss

I say leave the 35's on and drive slower. I know the differance from 70 down to 65 was pretty good for me. I get ~17 with an AT.

It is what it is.
I'm with stock tires, and get 17 mpg. Added an air filter/synthetic and still only 17 mpg.
Now have a quad xzt and will see if I get any better but not expecting it.
My buddy has the same truck as me and claims he gets 19 mpg.
The only difference between the 2 trucks is his came with the mich tires, and mine came with the bfg tires.
He says he never goes over 65 mph, and slows down long before he has to stop at a stoplight, and is very light on the accel pedal. He is also retired, and I run a business which demands my time so my driving habits are different (I have slowed down quite a bit now that fuel is expensive).
My last truck (2005 Ram 3500 had 35" tires) made a fuel mileage jump at 30k miles, and was getting probably 17 mpg at 70k miles. Keep in mind that fuel was less expensive at this time, and I used to drive it around like I stole it with no concience effort to save on fuel. My overhead used to say I was getting 19, and 16 pulling my trailers even with the corrected speedo but this wasn't the case.
16 mpg with your setup is pretty good.

I'm getting 15 average with the 35s on my truck. I do keep the speeds down, try to not go over 65 or 2K RPM. But the city driving really does hurt the fuel mileage and negates any benefit of the large diameter tires lowering my RPMs on the highway... and the lift doesn't help either.

17 mpg sounds about right for your application.I only got over 20 mpg once.I now average about 19 mpg mostly highway and driving it like PawPaw.

I wish I could get 16 in town. I can run around and not ever rev over 1800 rpm accelerating or cruising, it still only gets 13.5 mpg hand calculated.

If i get out on the freeway and run 60 mph, then it will get right at 20 mpg hand calculated.

My truck is bone stock except for 285/70-17 BFG All Terrains, which I'm running 60 psi.

I do only have 13,500 miles on it though. I keep hoping it will get better.

During the last two months my lowest was 16.81 and highest was 19.91 (all hand calculated). It's a daily driver and rairly get to burn a whole tank on the highway, mostly on and out of cities. I do have a little over 40k on the motor. I occasionally (once a week or so) "blow the soot out of it". It seems to me that the truck mileage starts drifting down when I just putter around for a week or so. Of coarse I only mash the motor just to entertain my 11 year old . At least it works for me.
