Where can I buy a reman motor for my 06

My 06 just died, the harmonic balancer came apart and I think took the rest of the motor with it. I have 125K on it so Im screwed as to a warranty motor on top of that I was running a tuner so dodge at this point wants 11K for a used motor and 13K for a new one I think that is a little out of line anyone know who else might be able to help. Thanks

I use car-part.com a lot wardy. They will even list by price, or which one is close to you. Hopefully you could find one on the way on your trip home. Man that is bad news! I'll be looking extra hard at my balancer. So.....do you think there was 2 vibrations? The u-joint and the engine, or did maybe one cause the other?

Well there are alot of things that could have done it in. I looked at the balancer today and it was in two pieces. The outer ring was completely severed from the inner ring. Southtown Dodge in
St. Louis Mo graciously helped me out by making me buy the marked up stock balancer even though it did not fix my truck, four bolts hold the balancer on, it was in the box when I got there and they would not take it back. The tech was a little mad at them because he said they definately should have taken the part back. After talking to the tech we came up with a couple a scenarios. 1) Two piece flywheel I ran for a little to long throwing the thing out of balance and it finally gave up, I replace this 15K ago because it was separating and causing vibration. 2) The injector I replaced last week, I limped the truck into the dodge dealer only running on 5 cyl. I noticed discoloration in the heat sheild over the exhaust manifold so it was definately really warm. I might have done some damage then and I did not know it. 3) Balancer flew apart threw all the timing off and hydrolocked it and bent rods or broke the crank.

Man, I am just sick thinking about you! Sorry for your luck. Hope you can find an engine! Saw an engine on ebay a while back too. That car-part.com has done real well for me locating odd parts and stuff I didn't want to pay dealer prices for.

Wardy, You can buy a long block from cummins for about 7900 bucks. You will get a 6 month unlimited mile warranty with the engine.

My '05 just blew up and I found a complete pull out (long block, turbo, injectors, ecm, etc) from a wrecking yard (truck was totalled from behind) and the motor had exactly 5,004 miles on it (yeah.. BRAND NEW!) for $8k. Thats after the core charge and everything.

I've built and raced small blocks chevy stuff for years. Ive broken cranks, spit rods out the side of blocks, blown head gaskets and hydrolocked motors and I never, ever have had a balancer come apart like this thing did. When I get it home I will post some pics. I dont think the fluid dapmner would have hurt, but I think a good non defective stocker would have helped also. Even if I broke the crank or whatever I don't see why the out ring of the balancer should have come loose from the inner part. A lot of the rubber ring was missing so I think it was just a defective part.

Was there any oil leaking on the front of the motor? Any petroleum on the rubber will soften it and let the two pieces come apart. Also the amount of vibration on these engines compared to a sbc is a big difference too. Not saying it is right as I haven't seen a balancer on one of these come apart either, but I have seen balancers come apart.

I have seen this company advertised before as carrying Cummins Engines. It looks like they are based out of Oklahoma City, OK. I have never used them and don't know anything about them except from the advertisement and their website. Just throwing this out there to be helpful and to offer another source to check out. Good luck.

I live in OKC and my neighbor works at Blumenthal. He is a QC manager there. I don't know if I can get you any type of discount there, but I do have a contact there. I wasn't aware that they were a motor shop because they are all over transmissions. I've heard positive and negative feedback about them though. It's worth a shot to help you out, so send me a PM and I'll get you the number. I'm going through them on a transducer and solenoid for my 05 for a shifting issue.
Thanks
Scott
