What's wrong...

The wife borrowed the truck this week (we had snow). Today she said that while she was driving into the travel plaza she lost any pedal response. She pulled into a parking spot and the engine died. It started fine but then on the way home did a similiar thing but the engine didn't die this time.

Is this an APPS reset issue or maybe IP? Thoughts and suggestions would be great. I have about 96,500 miles and would like to get this done under warranty if possible. I'll check for codes and advise also.

Thanks everyone.

Code

Just checked for codes and P 0628 is showing. She also said the CEL did not come on. 0628 is for the lift pump, right?

Does that mean bad injector pump or lift pump?

Sounds like the lift pump is going out.
If still under warranty the dealer will install the newer in-tank pump.

Codes don't always tell the real story. How cold is it and are you useing any antigell additive? Start with the basics. Don't change parts to trouble shoot.

The temp was about 28. I didn't have any additive in it with this tankful but did with the previous one.

Also, today it did it to me two times. Once after starting about 1 mile down the road it started to get a dead pedal. I pumped the pedal and then it recovered. Then, about 15 miles later, it started to do it while going about 62mph.

I'm scheduling it for warranty work. I have 96,600 and need to take advantage of the warranty while its there.

Update

The dealer called and said the lift pump was bad and would be replaced under warranty with my deductible of $50.

How much is a lift pump anyway?

BTW: What is the standard pump that goes back in from the dealer? Is there a way of upgrading this while they have it apart or does the dealer only offer one type?

only one type if you have plans to do to a FASS or other then you need to do it now do to the requirement and differnece in the two fuel tank modules, the one they are taking out has only tubes that go to the bottom of the tank, the retro fit has a pump in the module so it dont work so well with an aftermarket LP. usually the shop wont give you back your old parts under warranty.

The lift pump is part of the 5yr/100k Cummins warranty so you shouldn't have to pay the deductable.
The dealer will install the newer in tank pump.
