Whats all the stink about???

Changed the oil today and switched to shell rotella T 5-40 synthetic. I have read a lot about the particular smell of rotella. I have to say I didnt notice it at all and Im pretty sure I used Rotella.

You used the sythetic, it's the normal that has the stink. The synthetic is not that bad.

Changed over to rotella T 5-40 synthetic last fall. Truck motor stank for 2 or 3 weeks. Smell finaly went away. Then it got real cold and the cp3 started to weep. Don't like the smell of that ether. Dealer tech said they do that in extream cold. But I sure was glad I changed to 5-40 syn.

Im glad I changed to. Starts are better, and the engine seems more "smooth" I guess you could say. I will do a blackstone test to see how it does.
I had a hard time finding the rotella, walmart, napa, autozone, parts plus, were all out of it or dont stock it. I finally found some at checker auto.

I just did a 16 qt TRANS fliud exchange on my 1998 1500 with Amsoil full synthetic ATF.Stank for 3 or 4 days of driving and shutdown depending on which way the wind was drifting after shutdown. It stank like their oil does sometimes when I change in the 3500.(15w40 full synthetic)So it must be additive packs and the luck of the draw on wind/conditions etc.But it was the VERY same smell.
