What transmission does a 2005 3500 have
Hi all
I am looking at a 2005 3500 4X4 4 door with duals I took it for a drive rides nice but looking at it, it is hard to tell how many gears it has in the automatic. When I put it in tow/haul mode it was the same RPM as if I put in number 2 It has D,2,1 on the column. Does that mean it is a 3 speed auto?
Or does it have a 3 speed with a hidden 4th overdrive?
Thanks
Tom

Its a 4 speed OD transmission, designation 48RE. he OD is a ECU controlled shift so yes it is kinda hidden. The TH is a modified shift strategy, not OD lockout like earlier models, that extends shift points and locks the TC sooner.
You will need to get over 45 mph for it to shift to OD so if you were just tooling around it may have been in drive only, or if you were slow enough it may have down shifted to 2nd.

...and looses the aggressive lockup features and extended shift points. It softens it up to the mushy NVH opration that is not very useful for anything, IMO.

No, its a special flash that has to be requested and installed seperately from all the other updates. The normal flash updates should not effect it and should only address issues around the OEM flash.

Correction...it is in the latest flash but must be enabled by the drb3.It can be switched on and off with the drb so if you decide you don't want it it can go backwards.

Ok ... I started this thread and I have decided on not buying that truck... but I have just bought an 2006 Dodge dually with a stick. There is not a lot of them around but I did find one and meets my requirements..
Thank you for answering my question... I kind of thought it was a 3 speed with something extra.
