They used the same filter since the sixties, Dodge p/n 3515996, then in 1996 they changed it up to the metal and plastic one for the 46RE transmission, its p/n is 52118789. I would imagine the aftermarket's parts catalog just wasn't updated properly. I'd think the dealer's parts dept would probably get it right.

If you have the factory trans then it should be the 48RE 4 speed auto just like I have in my 06. I remember when NAPA tried to tell me I didn't have a 48re auto trans as the only one listed in there book for 2006 was the 545 a 5 speed auto. Went to Dodge and got my filter for $22.00 including tax. Also why would anyone want to buy from a place who wanted to sell you the wrong trans filter?

probably because the 2500 hemi powered has the 545 transmission. All depends on who's behind the parts computer...

According to the Amsoil website the 45, 46, 47 and 48 auto transmissions all take the same filter...

ya, could very well be.. just saying the guy behind the counter might try to convince you that you have a 545 on your Diesel truck, if he's looking at the hemi 5.7 stuff..

on a similar note, I crawled under a 5.7 hemi 2500 truck this weekend, and that tranny looks tiny compared to ours.... my buddy was also wondering why his axle tubes were much smaller than mine too... I tried to explain to him my truck has a 11.5" AAM, and his likey the 10.5"...
