What size tires to get?
#17
OK! Just found my next tire!!! I'll need to do a lift kit. Maybe 2" will get er' done, but it's the Parnelli Jones "Dirt Grip" 37/12.5R17/E. This tire might be a little more agressive than I wanted to go but it certainly looks and tests like it will outperform my other choices. It has a diameter of 36.7" and the rim range is 8.5" - 11", so I bet it will just squeeze on the stock 8" Thunder Road rims with no problems, and minimal rubbing. The Pocket Flares are a must too.

I have 285/18 on my 06. It has not been lifted. It seems to have geared the thing up as it is a little sluggish off the line. On the freeway it lowered rpm's about 100. It does not rub ever.

I put a set of BF Goodrich TA KOs, 285-70-17, on my truck at 600 miles and Monday I just purchased a replacement set. I had 87,000+ miles on that first set of tires and could have gone maybe 5K or 10K more but I am about to pull my RV and wanted new tires. The KOs are expensive but you can't beat the mileage.
I have 3.73 gears and going from a 265 to a 285 gave me the equivalent of 3.54 gears.

Strjock81.... I am guessing you aren't going to be pulling anything of any substance, then?
Real off road - no way , too much $$$ and just too long!
Safety, capability, in rainy/snowy hwy, winding back roads and ultimately, my driveways. My old Ram with 285/75r16 BFG's A/T ko's almost let me slide off the driveway into the elec. transformer for the house. Real nice when you really need it most. And I'm not knocking the BFG's, I ran them for over 6 years. But they do load up with snow.
It’s why I had it undercoated, Zeibarted, Line-X'd, to preserve the body. I think the Cummins is a tank of an engine and mine will only see light duty. The 4" Boss Bars WTW, are on order. So I think some chunky, beefy tires and a mild lift with some pocket flares will finish the look. Maybe a bull bar and some lights eventually.
And if I ever need it (and the possibility is greater where I live), it's all there.
But I certainly appreciate the questions and comments, and yes even the opinions. That's what makes these (and especially this) sites great. Individual experiences, by John Q. P.

Well, gents, I did it, I bit the bullet, finally!
I ordered the Pro Comp Extreme All Terrains, 35" x 12.5" R17.
$1,063. Out the door, locally.
Should have them installed this Friday, if I can take off.
Should have pics for ya'll on Monday.
I want to thank all of you that helped me make the decision.
I'm not cheap, but I hate spending money for something unless
it's really really worth it. I think I'm getting a great tire at a
great price. I hope it can live up to my demands and expectations.

I have the 295 Nitto's on mine. I got them off Discount tire for 175 shipped. They are a great tire. You can run up to 315 with out any rubbing but you have to change your rims. I run the H2's and they can be run the 315 with out any rubbing. But I do not want to deal with the Dodge death wobble

From what I understand the 315's up to 13.5 will fit any 06' without lift of any kind, and only minimal rub will occur at full turn. And within reason, on the stock 8" rims.
