what should my exhaust temperature be?
Hi everyone, recently i have been able to install the bully dog outlook module and i do not think it is giving me the right exhasut temperature. the truck is an 05' 3500 with a pro-flo 5 inch turbo back exhaust and has the ATS 2 piece pulse manifold. the probe is mounted pre-turbo, at idle the temperature is at 314 and when i get on it the temperature drops. This past wednesday i towed a 3500 lbs. empty trailer over the grapevine doing about 75 with the BDDL set to tow. the outside temperature was about 83 at 10 p.m., my water temp was 218 and my boost was at about 23 PSI, my exhaust temperature was somethin like 318-324. I contaced Bully dog support (not the sharpest knives in the droor) and they want me to reomove everything to the module except the pryo and send it back to be tested and updated. its not to hard to remove but its just a real pain in the ***. Is there anybody out there that is running a simular setup maybe with mechanical gauges or just anybody with an exhaust gauge, what is your temp.
Thanks,
Mike

Mike

Hope this helps you out.
Iv got a stock 2500 with the EGT mounted preturbo. The temps I see are 300* at idle and 6-700* at 70 MPH.
The few times I towed over Grapevine, the temp did get around 900 but not for long.
The only time I have seen the temp drop is when Im going down the back side of a hill.

Mine will read around 270* at idle with A/C off. A/C on adds about 30*
650*-680* @ 60MPH
It will climb to 1225*-1250* If WOT to 80MPH or so.
EGT's quickly decrease when letting off the skinny peddle.
All these nembers are when the truck is not loaded or pulling.

I think your module is dying....
My EGT'S:
Idling in traffic: 400-600 depending on idle time
Freeway / city (>45mph): 600-800 depending on hill, etc.
Merging into traffic (WOT): 1100-1400, depending on how ling I have to keep my foot into it!

Have you double checked the connections from the pyro probe to the outlook connector? Check to make sure that the connected terminals are not touching each other or a ground.
I have heard of some trouble with pyro probes and bad readings due to bad connections.
Also, on the outlook monitors, there are connections for pyro 1, and pyro 2. If you only have one pyro probe, you should connect it to pyro 1.

I have disconected all the connections and reconected, and triple checked everything. I will probably rip it out and send it back to bully dog so they can see can figure out what is wrong with it. thank you guys for the quick responses and the information

I still have not had a chance to send the unit back, but a was talking to a friend of the family who is a highly skilled mechanic and works at the dealership and is certified to work on the vipers which is the highest mechanic level at dodge. Anyways he was saying there is a good chance it might be reading the right temp since it has a 5" straight pipe from the turbo back, also the water temperature while towing was not much hotter than running it stock down the freeway on a hot arizona day.

Pre or post turbo won't make that much of a difference. Stock 600 motors run hot, my dads 05 has no trouble reaching 1150 post turbo pulling his camper. Something is wrong, figure it out especially if you are going to up the power.

Again, something is not right with that unit. I have the Bullydog with a five inch exhaust and AFE intake and see 1300-1400 on the monitor pulling a trailer up hills. I have a second analog gauge as a backup confirming the readings (Bullydog reads back cylinders, autometer Phantom reads front)...Your temps are off...
