what oil psi do you have?

It seems like my truck is running at lower oil psi then usual. at 1500k or so it is just above 40 psi. At a idel it is only at about 25 psi or so. I just changed my oil, i run rotella 15 40. But it seems like i was running closer to 60 before, and about 40 at a idel. maybe its cause it is warmer out now??? But just curious as to what outher trucks run for oil PSI.

Oh my truck has just under 126k,

Thats exactly what mine does and I've been informed that the stock oil pressure gauge is just a dummy and not really exact. But anyway, you truck seem very normal from what I've learned. Others will be more specific but thats my two cents.

Mine runs at a little above 40psi at idle, then up to 60-65 going down the road. I did notice after I started running an oil conditioner it brought the psi up a little bit.

Several of these threads lately, and mine does this as well. Normal.

if you want accurate oil pressure readings, install a manual gauge.... the factory gauges are not any better than a light

Well now my oil psi at an idel is at the frist line, prolly bout 20 psi i would guess. and at about 1500 - 1700 it is at about 45 psi. and about 50 psi at 60 mph. I have a gauge here. ware is a good spot to hook the line up too??

I have NEVER seen it this low at a idel before. The way my luck is i prolly screwed something up. I smelled my oil to see if maybe i had a bad injector or something and it smells fine. no fuel smell, and its at the correct level.

Hey fellas!

The factory gauge is nothing more that a calculation based on engine temperature. In short...an idiot gauge!

My autometer gauge shows ~7-10psi at HOT idle, and 30-40psi at 1600 rpm, depending on temps & load, etc. At 2500RPM, 40-60psi.

It is an idiot guage, and mine shows that same as all of you:

1. At idle, slightly above low line of the normal range.
2. Cruising high speed or acceleration, towards the high line
3. When first started cold, it stays towards the high-side until warmed up.

Hey Johnnie Mopar, did you ever hook up your gauge? As all of us with these "idiot" gauges want to know what you're actually showing?

And a thought - maybe I am way off base here. As our trucks are aging, and the engines are well broken in, I'm wondering if that's why even the idiot gauge is showing more variance than we were used to seeing earlier in our trucks' lives. Also, I wonder if the newer CJ-rated oil has something to do with it as well?

There was a similar thread over to this over on TDR recently. He hooked up a mechanical gauge, and was showing 15-20 at hot idle.

ware do i hook the gauge line up too?? i am guessing right above ware the oil filter is just pull one of the 2 plugs out and put it in there?? i have to go to the parts store and get some more hose for the gauge i have and a fitting for the end.

My truck when i first start it is above 40 psi at a idel. after it warms up it is touching the first line. If it is nice out i am going to do it tomorow. I was pretty busy last couple days after work.

The new oil's viscosity is too low. I change my oil often and the oil pressure changes depending on the oil brand, even when labeled the same. I don't believe this is damaging, because it is flow that is important, not pressure, However, it pays to be prudent. Change the oil with another brand and see.
