Hey guys,

Was hoping you all can give me pointers on what to look for in a used 4x4 5.9 w/ 6spd manual like common things that are pointers to future problems etc.

oh and from the '03 to '07 range... obviously i know since of where this thread is located but just coverin the bases here

 

make sure it doesnt breathe to heavily through the filler at the valve cover or the breather tube on side of the engine. check the front diff. If its covered in oil on the top half I'd be tempted to steer clear. I ignored that on the truck i bought and did the engine within 3 months of buying it.
Look real close that there arent oil leaks around the timing cover on the front of the engine. Don't think its very common but its a big job to fix.
Make sure the truck is cold when you come to see it so you can be sure it starts nice. Smoky or rough starting = big money.
and I'm sure you already know it but ill say it anyway, have a look at the outputs on your transfer case, the inputs on your difs and at the inspection cover on the bellhousing to see if they're leaking any oil.
