WHat is an " Injector flush" anyway??LOLOL

So went to the dealer to have the K01 flash done and of course they start spouting off all these things that need to be done because my truck just turned 100,000 miles

Fuel Filter ( Done) LOL Duhhhh like every 5,000 since new.

Valves ( Done) last week at 101,000 when injectors were pulled for testing.

" INJECTOR FLUSH" " Highly Recommended" LOLOLOL What can they possibly do for 150.00 to FLUSH the injectors? Put a bottle of some additive in the tank??? LOLOL

Needless to say, I declined all services.

Did you get line of BS that your truck may not run right if you didn't do the flush?

Clearly 10,000 - 25,000 psi fuel running through them isn't going to clean them the same way some additive will, cmon now haha

I got the same story on my last service visit. They claim that they actually disconnect your fuel source and connect to a bottle of their special cleaner (snake oil?) to run through the injectors to "clean" them. I have yet to hear ANYONE comment on the effectiveness of this process. IIRC, the cost was about $135 to do this.

From what I have been able to determine from reading this forum, the best way to clean the injectors is to go out and pull heavy. I plan to do that in 2 weeks (10k lb 5th wheel from L.A. to San Diego and back). I also use an additive every few tanks (Howe's Meaner Kleaner).

Yea mine gets hooked up to the horse trailer and USED pretty hard on a regular basis. Plus when they pulled my injectors they said they were clean with no build up. LOL

This is a fairly common procedure on gas engines. The can of cleaner is under about 35 psi, and gets hooked to the fuel rail just like the standard fuel line does.

If you've been using cheap fuel, or the car has a lot of miles on it, this can actually provide some benifit. Just like any other maint or repair item, some cars need it and some don't.

A couple times a year I put some Chevron Techron or BG Chemtool in all my EFI vehicles.

But diesel? I believe there is a machine available that will power flush the injecters in the same way, but at the right pressure. I wonder what a disposable can that contains 25,000 psi would look like?

so are you guys saying not to use any fuel system cleaner in our dodge diesel trucks.

I use 1/3 bottle of standodyne about every 4th tank of fuel or diesel clean.

so far have had no fuel related problems, use it more often in the winter in case of moisture in the fuel.

so far i have had not fuel related problems with the old dodge, it runs like a hant, guess i will continue to pour in a little fuel system cleaner (snake oil) from time to time, and watch like a hawk, where i buy fuel.

old girl runs goods, pulls good and gets great fuel mileage for a big heavy 3/4 ton truck. 2005 model

Not really. I think the majority of discussion here pertains to what the dealer is pushing when you go in for service. For $135 (at my dealer), they do an "injector flush" that supposedly removes the carbon and other deposits from the injectors. They do it by force-feeding their special cleaner into the fuel system. Most believe this is unneeded.

There are several other threads around that discuss the relative virtues of fuel additives such as the Stanodyne that you use. While there are some that believe that these are unnecessary, a lot of people believe in them and use them regularly. FWIW, I use Howe's Meaner Kleaner in mine.

I actually just had this done. First time my truck has been to dealer since I bought it. It was running like crap and smoking a lot. Took it there and they did this. Man did it help my truck tremendously. I don't care for dealers that much but this trip was well worth it. I recommend spending the money on it. Just my 2cents

WOW!! You're the first I've seen to have something positive to say about this. Tell us more about how your truck was acting before the service and how it was improved. Did you do anything else at the same time? How many miles are on your truck? Were you up to date on related services (air filter, fuel filter, etc.)?

The symptoms my truck pre flush were NO power, lots of white smoke out exhaust. At first I thought I had trash in my fuel because the truck was sputtering a few days prior. I had 99980 miles on the truck and couldn't drive it at all with the power lose. I had it towed in thinking I was getting a new Turbo off the warranty. Dealership called me wanting me to do the flush before they replaced the Turbo because there were no codes thrown when this happened. The were going to do it up front and if it worked I had to pay for it. If it did not work they would eat the cost of it and diagnose the truck for other things. He said when they did this they drove it and it ran strong. I was skeptical but I trusted the dealer. The truck had a flush done and with the flush comes a fuel filter. The truck now runs stronger than before it messed up. Very satisfied with this service. Would recommend to higher mileage trucks. Dealer recommends every 30k but mine was almost 100000.

So, what was the cost for the flush including the fuel filter? My truck only has 58k on it and doesn't have any of your symptoms. However, I have a very intermittent "bobble" (for lack of a better description) at idle and a slight ticking noise at cruising speed. If it's not too much more than a straight fuel filter change (at my dealership, that's about $100 by itself), I might give it a try.

It cost me $240. That is doing the entire fuel system, rail and injectors from what shop manager told me. I think its not bad seeing that is the first time I have spent money on the truck other than general maintenance.

How exactly does a "hant" run? And for that matter, what is a hant? Never heard this term before. Just curious here.

Mine is starting to puff white and run rough on start-up again. The last time it happened, I ran some Howe's MPK through it and went away. I blamed that on my then 2 mile commute to work. I'm not a lead foot and I haven't towed for about a year, I have a 20 mile commute now and I'm doing another treatment and also next week, I will be going on a 1000 mile trip towing a friend's 1965 Olds Cutlass the whole time to a car show and US 395 has a few nice hills on it between LA and Reno. That should clean up whatever else is in there, lol
