What is good additive to diesel fuel
I have a 2007 cummins 5.9 with 101,000 miles and have heard of a lot of injectors going bad and was wondering what additives to put in diesel fuel to help extend the life of them . I know some people talk about automatic transmission fluid in fuel,is this a good idea

Ive run schaffers They run quieter and starts easier. Additive alone is only part of the solution better filtration is a must. Factory doesn't cut it.

Don't use automatic trans fluid. The new fluids do not burn well in the cr diesels. The are several diesel fuel additives and there is lots of reading on this subject, do a search.
I use 2 stroke TCW-3 oil for additional lubrication at the rate of 2/3 oz per gallon. I also have 2 micron filtration.

In my truck I use TCW3 2 cycle oil or Optilube XPD. In my 2011 VW diesel I use only the Optilube XPD.
My truck had all the injectors replaced at around 40K miles, I started using the 2 cycle oil right after that and I now have 170K miles on it and the injectors seem to be doing fine.

There are a a bunch of options out there. Try a few and see what works for your truck. Although it sounds weird, each 3rd gen responds differently. I ran TCW3 for a while but the truck didn't like it very much. The truck felt groggy. I saw no improvement of mpg (not that that was my sole aim). I'm running Lucas treatment now. The truck seems to like it better (it's runs smooth). Although Lucas cost a little more than the TCW3 I'd rather run it.
I'd say try a few and see how the truck responds.

I have used howes, diesel kleen, and seafoam. My dad also runs these in his duramax and powerchoke, and for both of us and all the trucks, seafoam has made the biggest difference. But, as mentioned, better micron filtration is a must. I run the airdog II f100 system.

I started using Diesel Kleen within the last few months and had an injector fail last week. None of these will work that well without better fuel filtration. I went out and bought the Vulcan Performance Fuel Filter set up, same as Glacier Diesel Performance but is 10 minutes away from my house. I thought about saving up for the Air Dog but I do not like the fact that you cannot go under 1/4 tank, unless you make the mods to the fuel tank (I believe). I will probably buy the Air Dog after saving up to do it right. Invest in the extra filtration over an additive, or pay the big money to replace the injectors.
