What is the fuel limiting valve?

having starting and loss of power issues..... Dealer says lift pump and fuel limiting valve bad... $2,000 to fix... I get the lift pump.. but whats fuel limit valve do, and why soo much to replace it.

I need a cheap fix so I can keep it running long enough to trade it or run it thru the auction. It's been a great truck..but I give up.....

Thumbs up

First off if that's your problem don't pay that. Here's what you do the limiting valve is what we call the rail relief valve. The location of this is to the right off the rail sensor and is mounted on the rail. Take the banjo bolt out, carefully bend your fuel return line away just enough to loosen the valve make sure as you are lifting the valve out you pull it straight up out. Now as you are pulling it out and if the fuel starts dipping out the bottom then that valve is bad so go to a hardware store (take your banjo bolt w you) and get a 14mm x 150 thread pitch and cut it down to the banjo bolt length and cap your rail off so you will not have to buy that $400 switch then go buy a Fass of Glacier fuel kit for less than $700 and you are fixed.

I don't know that advice to cap your rail is very smart. The relief valve is there for a reason. I know a lot of people do cap their rails but, IMO that's like making a pipe bomb strapped to your engine ! I'm sure you could do better than $400 you just have to look around and not at the dealer

Well, I pulled out the relief valve and fuel started dripping out until it was empty, and for some reason I tried to blow thru it and air came out the other side.... I guess thats not normal, anyway I did the bolt trick and the truck starts right up now with no delay or long cranking. I guess my next question is what risk is there leaving it that way? I hear some conflicting info but it seems to have fixed one problem. Next question, what is the fass of glacier fuel kit? Thanks for all the help and for a bit of strees relief. I went from a 2,000 dealer bill to a running truck for 1.50
