just an option. never really heard of anyone having issues with the electronic shifting ones though.

My 2005 has the manual on floor 4X4 lever. However, my wife's 2004 Durango AWD has the electronic 4X4 shifter: a **** to turn on dash. "Knock Wood" we have never had a problem with hers yet

My 06 has the manual shift. Some have em, some dont. My father's 06 has electronic...not for me. I'll keep the manual.

I believe it's standard on a Laramie and a option on a SLT? I don't mind it, worse case your crawling under the truck for 4x4 I am much more concerned about having a manual tranny!

some one told me the dodge design is different than cheby or ford. it uses a simple vacuum switch to engage and disengage. i don't know if that's totally true but that's what a buddy told me. he says the lever and switch are basically the same except on what is pushing the lever, you or vacuum.

also i've never heard of one switch type going out.

I got the manual on my 06. There is already enough electronic crap on my truck as it is. Just something else to break. I wish I had an option of locking hubs too, but didn't have option. Have to pay big bucks to change it.

I love my Electronic in my 06. First one I've ever had. Would buy another with it again. So far, not problems either.

I believe 2nd gens were vacuum, but I don't think the 3rd gens are.

Can't get a manual shift lever with the Mega Cab, only option is electronic due to the air ducting. I always was one that wanted the manual shift lever as well but the electronic button has been working out well....so far...

My 06 has the manual. It's incredibly smooth and easy compared to my 99, and my 105lb GF that's about 5 feet tall can engage the transfer case without issue. On the 99, it took two arms and that was usually while moving so we'd be swerving off the road.

Anyways, I wish I had the electronic one. I really REALLY wish I had the full center console instead of a jump seat. The way my console is designed, no one in a million years could EVER sit in the middle seat, so why bother putting one there? You can see in the photo below why there is no point in a center seat....
