What do you think?
Here's the beginning to present with the ownership of my truck. I need to get this problem figured out if I'm hurting the truck! You are reading the following as a line of progression to it's current state.
July 2006: sold new on Chrysler Financial in LA.
April 2008: Gets repo'ed and auctioned to Mom & Pop dealership in TX.
I buy the thing off eBay with 45,000 miles on the clock.
Anxiousy await the arival of my baby for a week here in IL.
Meet the transporter in the Lowe's parking lot.
Noticed Over Head Console fuel reading is 7 miles per gallon???
Radio is in AM mode, no presets. ECM recently flashed?, I wondered.
Drive my truck and call my Wife letting her know it's here. (grinnin' like cat eatin' screen wire.)
Toe nail it a little, and decide the Dodge diesel is salty!
Little black smoke at start up sometimes. No white smoke ever.
Some black smoke on the higher end of RPM visible in passenger side mirror when really getting on it..
Take it to a shop to have trailer harness fixed.
Noticed OBDII plug is green and corroded looking. Not a little... a LOT! (I'm thinking it has had a box???)
Asked jobber shop guy I deal with if this thing is stock, He assures me it is.
Truck runs awesome.
Then one day I notice its down on power a little.
No bad noises, starts great, no white smoke, but no black smoke at start up or while getting on it either.
Turbo seems to whine REAL bad. A normal whine, but excessive. At 50 MPH, no load, flat road, I can hear it. If I get on it, the turbo just screams, but the truck feels like it's down on power. Trust me, it's more than me just getting use to it. Is it possible for the wastegate to stick open and dump my pressure? Or maybe ECM was flashed and has "learned" my driving habits, and slowed the truck down? Am I even on the radar with this problem? The turbo whines like a you know what. But it doesn't push you back in the seat like it used to. Also, I just remembered, before it got to this point, I could hear the turbo spool up, then drop down, then come in again under heavy foot, on a grade while in 5th or 6th. It would drop down and come back real fast. I don't want to hurt this engine. Truck has 55,000 miles on it now. It did this before I put the 5" exhaust on. If anything, it's gotten worse sense the exhaust install. I pulled 14,000 lbs today and a 1989 Ford 6.9, non-turbo Powerjoke could have had his way with me... with the same load!!! I changed the oil day before yesterday; Relevant or not, I noticed my CP3 is wet or the PS pump is leaking a little. I don't know which. My sig is current. Please help me.

With it having been a Repo will DC even honor the warranty?
Did you do an Oil sample on the oil you changed out? Also noticed you've done the Tone Ring mod...this will increase the turbo noise you hear in the cab. Do you have gauges on the truck? If so whats the Fuel Pressure, turbo Pressure?
Possible boost leak? Check the connections from the turbo to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the intake. Make sure everything is tight.

I haven't done a sample of the oil. The oil I drain LOOKS good, no metal or anything. I should say I assume the ring is gone. This turbo has had a heck of a whistle since I got it. I can't imagine it being louder if it's not out. It will make my ears ring driving 20 miles or so with the windows up. I figured the guy before me did it by the way it sounds. I have no gauges, I have visually inspected the clamps and they are all pulled tight enough to be depressing the rubber, none broke I should say. I'll go over them all and see if any are loose but I doubt it. I just don't know what to do with it. I need to see if that shaft on the waste gate moves too.
