Its like this. Everyone that the trans. hasnt gone out says their fine. Everyone thats had one go out will say their junk. I have had 14 trucks in the last 32 years and six of the last were diesels from Ford, Chevy and now Dodge. I have never had a transmission issue till last week. This 06 trans. is totally trashed. Need a new one, but with an aftermarket TQ and valve body.
We will see how long this one lasts.

This is good advice. That's what I intend to do with mine. If it fails within the warranty period, let DC fix it. Stay away from the power-adders until the warranty is up. You should be just fine.

I think the weak link in the drive train is the TC. That is where you should start if the trans fails. There are some real good after-market converters out there that use double or triple disc lock-up clutches. Coupled with a valve-body that increases the fluid pressure and you have a pretty strong gear-box. But all that should be done only after DC refuses to fix it.

Thanks for all the feed back. I think I will do as many have sugested and keep it stock untill/if I ever have a problem and then consider upgrading the trans.

but what one should look at is preventive upgrades . don't run your transmission hard towing til it is "toast" do upgrade before it hit the toast stage .. my trnasmission was on the verge of the toast stage but i caught it before it went over the deep end . if you are hauling heavy loads with some sort of hp power enhancements to your truck you are bound to have issues .. my self personally did all my schedualed maintenance on it with new mopar filter and mopar atf+4 and just with some mild towing with my box on 2 i absolutly burnt my fluid to a crisp .. but it was caught before i did anymore damage . now i have and upgraded v/b t/c and accumulator valve!! wow what a difference !! shifts like a real truck now !! temps are way lower and it holds back the exhaust brake so much better .. the second best investment i made to my truck ,,

Yes, upgrade it before you have problems. My 03 was pretty much stock with a 60 hp box. That trans was fine. My 06 is modified and toasted the trans at 53000 miles and I dont bash on it just use it for daily work. I just got it back with a new trans with a tripple disk billet converter and a mod valve body. What a night and day difference. This will be done to all my future trucks.

I cant understand why all of you spend that kind of money to get this tranny to do what it suppose to do to begin with. If you were going to put some serious power to it yes but seems like most of you have to upgrade this thing just to drive it up and down the road. I have tried to work with this thing and I hate it. It want pull and acts up all the time.

so assume you have auto ..
i will tell you what happened to me .. my wife and son and i went out for a day last fall riding our quads ..my truck had an empty box and a 16" car hauler on the back with two quad and a dirt bike .. so the trailer probably weighted about 3000# ... 3000# !!!!!! thats it .. it was a nice cool day and i drove up to one of our local riding spots .. the road going up was a wide gravel logging road which i used 4 - wheel drive for traction and going very slow in 1 gear .. well i was trogging up this road .. and there was about a 1/4 mile of section where it was kinda soft .. so the truck did a little spinning .. but nothing too serious .. all of a sudden i look at my trans temp gauge
(the probe is in the pan ) and it is almost pinned !! then my idiot light comes on .. i had never seen that come on before so wow that fluid must be hot !!!! so i quickly shut the truck off and let it sit for about 15-20 Min's .. it was a very cool day so it wasn't the ambient temp !! well i checked my transmission oil and it was COOKED !! .. GRRRR Man i was mad !! ,, so i can honestly say i was not abusing my truck at all !!! pretty pathetic i must say !!!
shame on dodge for making such a crappy tranny !!! that is my rant !!

Mine is the same way. You should try and pull something around 13k or 14 k. It will really make you want to cry. I had a 6 speed before this and it was so much better. I have some one kick at least once a day for getting this thing.

My Dad's 07 Mega has the auto and it now has a little over 4k miles on it, yes 4000. It has been in the shop 5 times for tranny leak. Tighten pan bolts, new pan gasket, new pan, new lines, and the last time they just scrached their heads and said we don't know. He is gonna lemon law it. Such a shame because it is a 5.9. I told him not to go auto!!! I'm stickin' with my old 12 valve!
