I have been reading some posts about transmissions being bad on some of the 6 speeds. I believe they are talking about a nv5600 and some other one. How can I tell which one I have and what are the problems supposed to be.

NV5600 reverse up by 5th
G56 reverse down by 2nd

NV5600 proven tranny
G56 too early to tell (does require dual mass flywheel though)

 

The NV5600 is an excellent transmission with no problems. The G56 had a hold on them from the factory due to the fluid fill hole being too low, not enough fluid to keep things lubed.

The NV5600 cost very little to overhaul (if ever needed) and change out clutch parts compared to what the new G56 transmission with it's dual mass clutch system will cost. They are saying just to change the flywheel and clutch components on the G56 will be comparable to what it costs to overhaul an automatic transmission.

DC no longer offers the NV5600 in their transmission lineup. There are still a few NV5600 left on the dealers lots but they are selling fast.
