HMMM so is dodge going to give me a refund if I mod my truck under warranty and they refuse to work on it? Kinda doubt it, but if it was an option I would have went 4 it. I have had my truck in the shop 3 times to have the heater fixed and it still only works half the time. The "expert" mechanic changed the thermostat first even though I told him that the gage ran perfectly normal near 200 all the time. Next they said it was a flow problem and ordered a core for the heater. Next they flushed the core before changing it and showed me a black chunk of crap they claimed came out of it. Worked great for a while. Now same thing. They wouldn't even consider the blend door issue, which I still believe is the problem.

Have a good chuckle while you can . But I guarantee you diesel smog testing is coming your way too.

As I recall, the state of Texas is mandated by the EPA to sell only unleaded gasoline and ULSD #2...right?

I'll chuckle as long and loud as I can. The kool aid is the same, drinking first does not make it any more right.

Ford can't do that. It is exactly why the Magnuson Moss Act came about. Was to prevent companies from mandating you use their oil, etc. As long as it meets the required specs, CI-4+, CJ-4.

It's difficult to chuckle very long or very loud with your head in the sand.

When you find a way to trump the EPA please let us know (I'd like some 100+ octane leaded gas for my old cars)

A good solution would be to sell the trucks without warranty if you wanted it, but they'd just rather say there isn't a problem/deny your claim. Be better off anyways. Come on how many people go in with legit claims on a 100% bone stock truck and have problems? Stick them for anything you can, because they screw enough people around!

The engine is solid enough to handle a Smarty or any other ONE programmer if you watch your parameters like EGT, boost, etc. Yea some things happen, but most engines will be fine for 300k+ even if modded as long as you don't go crazy.

I would say your best bet would be a rebuild, my guess you could have one for around 5k?

I've had a BDTD almost since I got my truck, yea if something happened to the engine I would try to get warranty on it. I've fixed enough BS problems myself that they won't cover on warranty

About race gas I can buy some anytime! I cannot believe anyone would live somewhere that mandated things like that (no offence). No smog testing here, cat and muffler fell of last summer and still MIA and won't be changing anytime soon!

Well it seems you have mastered it.

Try 100LL avgas for the old cars. As far as old thinking maybe explore this idea, the boys at the EPA/FED ARE NOT here to help the pursuit of freedom and individual happiness.

It only tastes like poop if you buy it

Nope, eyes wide open here. I guess I could drive 50 miles to the nearest airport and 50 miles back with some 5 gal cans and buy AV Gas for $5/gal and haul it home.

I don't like smog checks either but let's face it....you burn RUG in your car and you burn ULSD in your truck whether you like it or not because the EPA says you have to. .....You have insurance (I hope) on your vehicles because the state says you have to. You stop at red lights because that's in the Vehicle Code.

When the Govt says you have to have a smog cert on your truck (like you probably have to on your car) you'll do that too...like it or not....nothing to do with drinking Kool Aid or "individual happiness"

We are at a philosophical impasse.

When the time comes I will defend your opinion.

Sounds like maybe a hung injector. Although my Edge Juice always ran way hot, and #6 is always 50-100* hotter.. It seems like whenever a cylinder gets burnt down, there is a good chance it is one of the injectors that cracked or stuck open and kept getting hotter and hotter till it burns a hole in the piston.

So, it may not have been the Edge that caused it, hard to say either way. There is one thing that is a SURE THING in this post, and that is your are going to get it repaired by Mid-Atlantic Diesel, and he will take GOOD care of you.

The fact is they tried. I don't know if some people will just say ok fix it anyways and give me the bill?
Ford did end up paying for a new engine.

I guess they looked into it further without pulling off the head. It seems to be a faulty injector so they are going to replace it and see if that fixes it under warranty. At least they are steeping up to the plate.
