wanted: valve train parts
if anyone has any valve train parts i need some of those cheap plastic rocker arm socket retainers that hold the cup on the rocker arms. cant afford to buy hole new rockers from cummins for a .50$ part. lost more faith in cummins today finding out the life of the motor is in the hands of cheap brittle plastic crap

Ya i hear ya, when i pulled my injector out i guess it hit that plastic crap and snapped it in half. Now i gotta buy a whole new one i'd be interested in knowing if they are sold seperately.

i spent all day looking into it. you have to buy the entire rocker arm for $86 from cummins. I found that half the people on the forums and half the mechanics i talked to said they are only meant to hold the socket on the rocker arm while removing or installing. the other half said you risk throwing the socket and taking out the motor without them and the plastic bits could clog oil ports, etc. I bet you didn't even hit it i had three that were cracked and two were on intake rockers i didn't even touch when pulling the injectors. BAD DESIGN!!!
fyi the 2nd gen 24v are supposed to work as replacements and don't have the plastic piece. I'm looking at having a local machine shop turn some out on a lathe, maybe out of uhmw so its not so brittle. If it works out and you want some let me know i'll make more.
