Viscous fan problem, need some insight

I accidently posted this over in the '07 and up section on mistake, so here goes in the right section:

My belt started to shread, and somhow grab teh wiring for the viscous fan drive, and yanked it out of the fan. I pulled the fan and opened up the loom at the fan, and found 6 wires. What is odd is where the harness plugs into one another (about 12 inches down from teh fan), there are only 5 wires. At te fan there is obviously 1 extra wire, a red one.

Now, once the wiring got ripped out, my AC would not work at idle, only driving down teh road. (worked perfect BEFORE teh wiring got ripped up).

OK, I went to strip back the 5 wires ( i was going to leave the extra red wire alone since the other 5 wires color matched the wires at the connector). Alos, I have a shop manual, and it gives a diagram of the plug, and is exactly how it is on my truck. Unfortunaley, they do not have a diagram AT THE FAN. So, anyways, as I amstripping back the wire, I notice that the blue wire (at the fan) is not a wire, it is insulation or somthing. So, I strip back the extra red wire, and use it in place of my now missng blue wire. I get it all hooked up, plugged in, and go drive my truck. AC works GREAT again, idle, drving down the road, everything, BUT, NOW my clutch fan is engaged at all times.

So, my question is:

Anyone wire up teh viscous fan before?
And if so, what is going on with mine?

Had mine cut while driving thru some high water. All wire matched up and there was a blue was some type of insulation. I didnt even bother. with it. All worked fine as far as I could tell. Dealer replaced it when my ac compressor went south.

light green wire=Park lockout solenoid control
Black with light brown tracer=sensor ground
Red=fan speed
white=sensor supply
dark Brown=fused ignition switch output (run)
this may be the same one you have already????

The Red you have listed is actually Orange. At the plug, there is no red at all. Only at the fan, is there a orange AND red wire.

On the service manual is:

Y5 180R

The OR is Orange, in other words it SHOULD look like this: Y5 18 OR (for orange), and you probaly read it as:

Y5 180 R (which would read as Red)

The Black wire is actually Black with Light BLUE not brown. So, teh BK/LB is black/light blue.

Thanks for the help though.

Yes, the Blue with insulation is the one I am talking about. See, I left mine unhooked to (obviously with no wire to hook up to, I had no choice. But, should I have hooked the red wire up in place instead? I did that, but like I said, now my clutch fan stays locked up

Again, at the plug, about 12 or so inches FROM the fan, there are 5 wires:
Blue
White
Orange
Green
Black with Light Blue stripe

At the FAN, there are 6 wires:
Blue
White
Orange
Green
Black with blue stripe
Red

As you can see, the wires are teh EXACT same color in both places, with the exceptio of the 1 extra red wire AT THE FAN. Also, AT THE FAN, the blue wire, is NOT a wire, it is insulation. So, I did this:

Plug Side Fan Side

White to White
Orange to Orange
Green to Green
Black to Black
Blue to Red
Folded back blue insualtion/wire and did not use.

Any other suggestions?

Straight from teh manual:

CAV CIRCUIT FUNCTION
1 Y1 18LG PARK LOCKOUT SOLENOID CONTROL
2 K4 18BK/LB SENSOR GROUND
3 Y5 18OR FAN SPEED
4 - -
5 Y3 18WT SENSOR SUPPLY
6 F15 20DB FUSED IGNTION SWITCH OUTPUT (RUN)

BK/LB is black light blue
OR is orange
DB is dark blue

Thanks for trying 53

Hey, NO PROBLEM what so ever. You always seem to bend your back for everyone trying to help out around here. I would have misread the diagram to except I have the benefit of staring at the actual plug with the wires hanging out here on my desk! So,I am cheating But, I do have the manual, and I looked up and down for the wiring AT THE FAN, with no luck

So, this is what I do now, if I know I am going to be in stop ad go traffic, I leave teh plug, Plugged in. If I am going to do highway driving, I unplug the plug. Need less to say, PIA!!!!

Does anyone know what wires I would need to jumper to remove my fan for awhile and not set SES light?

With my wires unplugged, I am setting NO codes/lights of ANY sort!

Also, why would you want to unplug your fan???
