Viscous fan clutch bit the dust
Truck is at the dealer right now dropped it off this morning because the ac wasnt blowing cold at idle opened the hood and figured the fan wasnt moving as fast as it should with ac engaged. Get a call around noon telling me that my fan clutch is bad and it will be a 720 dollar job on top of that they wanted me to leave my truck there overnight because they had to get the new clutch from another dealer I explained that this truck is used for work and I need it back today. Needless to say this is irritating a non warranty item at 68k miles but 720 dollars to fix this??? How hard can it be I feel like I'm getting ripped a new one how much can this thing cost 100 bucks for the made in china POS that it is?
Anyone else have their fan clutch bite the dust and if so did you replace it yourself and how much was the part? Thanks guys

That fan clutch is in the $400 dollar range from what i remember. It is not a viscous but an electricaly controlled viscous clutch and yes it is expensive. That is not a part covered under the Engine warranty? Hmm....

I wound up paying around $500 to get mine replaced since they wouldn't replace it under warranty. They said since it wasn't lubricated by the engine oiling system it wasn't part of the powertrain warranty.

pm me your vin and I can tell you your warranty situation. Ask the dealer to print the labor operation from the dealer connect web site where it says not covered. The CAN do that, and if they won't, I'd ask to talk to a manager. You may only have 3/36, and I don't think it is covered under the 100K engine warranty, but the only way to know for sure is the computer. They can run your vin along with entering the LOP for the fan clutch replacement and print it out for you to see. Wound't consider letting them do it, until I see that! Also.......knowing about the LOP ( labor operation ) will let them know, you have, and are, doing research and you will be educated about what they are expected to do!
