Valve cover spring.

I did a valve adjustment on my Dodge Ram with Cummins HO Diesel and when I took the valve cover the spring was missing. I have recently had my injectors replaced so I went to the dealer to find out about the spring. They said they've never heard of a spring inside the valve cover. I know it had one because I've had the valve cover off before they worked on it. My question is what's it for and what are the consequences of not having it. I've driven the truck for several thousand miles with no apparent ill effects.

The only springs I know of under the valve cover are the valve springs them selves.

I think it is just for static electricy discharge, radio might pick up injector noise so spring just grounds cover. I did valve adjust today and it had the spring in there.

Thank you BigIron70. I didn't think it was of major consequence if it was missing.
