The only vacuum source I know of on my "03" is the cruse control vacuum pump located on the drivers side near the firewall. I'm sure it isn't the size you need to run vacuum over hydraulic. But yes there is a vacuum source.

Did you look Roger or Bigblock?..........They must have changed after "03" there is a small vacuum pump located behind the passanger side battery near the firewall.... the vacuum line runs over to and under the drivers side battery to the cruse control diaphram. I'd like to know. My 2nd generation had one and my "03" 3rd gen has one. If they changed the system in "04" I'd like to know. the computer tells the cruise control what to do but it needs a power source to accuate the throttle. Either way it isn't big enough to run brakes. I'd bet they use the same cruise control unit on there gassers. The don't need the pump...the vaccum is free.

Beginning with the 04.5 or as they are known the 600 there is not any vacuum source! This is the reason the Jake Brake cost went to $1325.00 list. You have to install an engine driven vacuum pump, which comes withe the kit, to activate the Jake Brake.

Vacuum Pump
My 04 has the electric vacuum pump on the passenger side fender back by the firewall. It is there for the servo control that does the speed control on the automatic transmission setups. I had developed a problem after 6000 miles where the speed controll was having trouble keeping up going up hills or if you used the accel button several times to speed up. Tech found the electric vacuum pump was not generating enough vacuum. Unit was replaced and all is working ok again.

Thanks Artie! Well at least I now know the "04" and probably the "05" still have a vacuum system of sorts. I know it won't run any accessories but it does have a system and not operated buy a "computer". I noticed a buzz from that area when I engaged the crusie control and the dealer told me what I was probably hearing.

1.) No vac pump on 05's at all.
2.) Jake brakes always came with vac pump. The tiny electric pump for cruise doesn't have enough vac to support the jake brake.
3.) XYZer, did you look at any trucks besides your own? You should make sure you know what you're talking about before you chastize someone.
4.) Diesels don't have throttles. It is merely a throttle position sensor. There is no butterfly valve. Those engines with the TPS on the engine (covered by black plastic and has engine data tag) will have an electric vac pump for cruise. Those engines with TPS mounted either under the battery tray (2003.5 to 2004.5 manual trans only) or in the cab attached to the go pedal (2005 autos and manuals) will not have an electric vac pump.

you will most likely have to buy the for the vacuum pump for the vacuum over hyd. to have enough vacuum to run your brakes but buy the time you buy all of that you can convert to a electric over hyd. unit that goes on your trailer and you just use a standard electric brake control thats what i did on my 40' goose neck and its great plenty of stoping power
