Turn key and grid heater lite stays on for long time
Just noticed this today. Normally it stays lit for 2 or 3seconds. Now its like 6 to 8seconds. I can here it click off in the engine compartment. Still starts fine whether I wait for it to go out or not. What's going on? Is this my first problem?
btw- it's been in the 50's in Chicago

It has been way colder than this in the last month and the grid heater never stayed on for more than a few seconds. 50degrees is warm to me. Just seems backwards or something is different or wrong.

The only other thing I could think of is if you're not driving long enough to recharge the batteries. The grid heaters pull 180 amps. If you're drive is short, they may not be getting charged. A sign of dying batteries is extended WTS cycles.

That makes sense. I started the truck more than a few times yesterday just to pull it back and forth maybe 10feet. I guess I know better now. I'm glad I have this place to teach me the personality of a diesel truck. Thanks.
