turbo dumps pressure around 2500 towing my trailer up a hill

Taking my 5th wheel up a steady grade and at 2500 rpm there was the sound of air releasing (blowing really). Tranny would not kick down again after that and I lost a ton of power. Got to a point where I could pull over and get under the truck and I was leaking engine oil...it was all over the bottom of the truck - dripping from the crossmember. Not a ton of oil running everywhere, but it was all wet. I limped it into town where i stayed for a few days. No more oil dripping and I made it almost all the way home (about 2 hours) before it all happened again.

Did not over heat, no indicatinos, no codes found with the key trick. I do not have any aftermarket gauges or mods.

2006 Mega cab 4x4 2500 5.9....with no trailer and just driving around town it seems fine - a bit sluggish up hills but I think I can hear the turbo spinning up.

I don't know if it was a tranny issue that brought it on or an engine/turbo issue. I need to find a good shop in San Diego to get this too.

Thoughts?

Check your oil level and make sure it isn't rising.....if it is stop driving it and pull the injectors. Buddy of mine cracked three nozzles and two bodies and didn't know it until it started making noises and running like crap. Looked under the truck and oil was everywhere. Pulled the dipstick and had about a foot of oil showing on it.

I'll check the oil level and the intercooler - what will the tell tale sign be at the intercoller?

If you had a boost gauge it would tell you if you have low boost and point you in the right direction...

You would save time and money by installing gauges...

Oil level was ok, a tad low and I need a change anyway.

Intercooler was fine.

Checked the air filter again (checked it shortly before the last trip)....the filter had become dislodged somehow. Got bent/buckled and was partially blocking the intake. I had never seen THAT one before. All seems good again.

Should look into gauges just in case.....thanks everybody.
