TSB for steering wheel vibration
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...p;pagenumber=1
I read this thread last weekend and did a little experiment with my truck. I looked at the hydroboost lines coming from the PS pump to the booster. The lines are long and unsupported. So as a little test I tie wrapped the two lines together at the middle of the run, at the metal coupler on one of the lines right next to the intake horn. I seems to me (maybe wishful thinking) that the high frequency vibration through the steering wheel has diminished.
I would like for some other members to try this and post their results.
Thanks

Re:TSB for steering wheel vibration
This is very interesting to me. I was slowing up at a freeway offramp just last night, and noticed as I was stopped waiting for the cars in front of me, a marked vibration in the steering wheel. I thought to myself "...now I've never noticed that before...", and here is a TSB to fix it already! Sweet!!
So MikeyB, all you did was support the line(s) and the vibe went away? Did yours vibrate at idle when stopped or just in the 2-2200 RPM range mentioned in the TSB? Got any pictures of what you did? My weekend to-do list may have just gotten longer...

Re:TSB for steering wheel vibration
TWZMYJP,
Feels like there's less vibes at idle but I didn't have much of one anyway. Mine is in the 2k range. The steering wheel vibe hasn't completely gone away but feels less than before. I will add some more tie wraps maybe tonight and see if there's a decrease in vibes.
All I did was tie wrap the two lines together. My thinking is that the two lines are resonating with the pulses of the engine and power steering pump. And with the fluid passing throught the hydroboost system that should be a differential between the lines. With the two lines touching the energy from the pulse is canceled out.

Re:TSB for steering wheel vibration
When I had the TSB done,it only changed the vibration from 1900 rpms to 2100 and up.Since the tsb wasn't officially released the tech didn't know it says to have the new p/s line with dampener weight secured away from rubbing on anything.
So as a temporary experiment I zip tied it away from rubbing on anything, and that seems to have helped a lot.Although it does still vibrate.I only feel it in the floor, never felt in in the steering wheel on my truck. If needed I can take a pic and post it let me know.I'm replacing the p/s pump next week,I'll let you know if that helps.

Re:TSB for steering wheel vibration
I added more tie wraps around the hydroboost lines. It actually made the vibes worse through the steering wheel. So I went back to one tie wrap at the center of the run. When I have time I will add weights to the lines.

Re:TSB for steering wheel vibration
just had the TSB done for the vibe last Friday- took it from an outright vibe to a shiver but it's still there- don't think the whole problem is the hydro boost- maybe the tranny is partly to blame?-- any other rumored fixes out there?

Re:TSB for steering wheel vibration
Had the TSB applied last week and is has helped but has not totally resolved the problem. However, I believe that the rpm range which the vibration is felt has been drastically reduced. I can now travel at 75 mph with a much smoother ride.
I also had TSB 18-015-03 "ETC Automatic Flash: Powertrain Control Module Shift Quality Improvements" applied. This is a must for those of you which have the 47re.
