No regrets. I had the flash 3 weeks ago.
I just got the best mileage ever last weekend. I drove to South of Wimington NC, which is about 160 miles from my house, and back. The overhead said 19.2 when I got back, but when I calculated the mileage I got 20.65. I ran 60 in the 55 zones and 70 on the 50 miles of interstate that I drove on. I only floored it a couple of times to get into traffic. I was very pleased. I wondered if I would ever see anything over 20 with this truck. My 01 would constantly get 20 to 23 on the road, but it had the 3:54 rearend.

I'm sitting on the fence about getting it done also. This past weekend I did a 500 mile trip to the Dunes pulling a flatbed trailer with two quads on it. (a pretty light load). With cruise control set at 75 mph for most of the trip, I averaged 13.1 mpg according to the overhead, 13.3 mpg hand-calculated. Check my sig below for details on the truck. Yes, the speedo has been recalibrated.

My average fuel economy (per the overhead) prior to this trip was 15.4 mpg, this has been about a 50/50 mix of city/highway, no towing.

I've already made an appointment to get the TSB done on friday afternoon, but now I'm wondering whether or not do mess with anything, my truck runs great (now that I've got the vibration taken care of), and I'll be really disappointed with any drop in performance, even if it does get me 2-3 more mpg.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has had the TSB done, is there any performance decrease? How much did your fuel economy change? Would you do it over again?

There are some threads on this. For the most part the reponse has been good. But the only negative has been that for some the overhead is now off a bit. For me it was never 100%, and it's still not 100% accurate. But the hand calc MPG is up and the motor is a lot more driveable.

It's hard to say exactly how much, but I've seen a real hand calced, topped up to topped up 21MPG, which I *NEVER* got close to before.

No regrets, see the other threads too.

no decrease actually more power pulls so much easier than before sounds so much better more like a 2nd gen from inside the cab. my milage increase is +2.5 mpg from appx 19 up to 21+ I would do it again in a second if I want to now i can drive 15mph faster and get the same econmoy i had before the tsb Ive found no drawback yet

Had mine done today by accident. I wanted the fast idle for cold weather done. But I got on bill Flash 19-037-04 for cold start. I assume a typo on the 19. I agree about the sound very different and smoother idle. doing a 1500 mile trip next week I will check mileage.

I had mine done on Oct 30th. I'm very glad I did. My truck never did better then 16 on a long road trip up into the flat area of central Cali. I drive through the hills now and get mid 17's driving hard 70 - 80mph. If i slow down a bit, 65 - 70mph it'll creep up to 19.

The tank that had the reflash done (was just over 1/2 tank when i left the dealer) hand calculated to 17.2. I never even got close to that before. My average was low 15's before.

It looks like my first full tank post flash will be high 17's or low 18's (based on fuel guage and miles traveled on this tank). This is interstate and 50mph 'country' driving. Same driving would put me in low 15's before the flash.

Engine feels like it's running better now too, smoother I guess. It ran fine before, but it's different now, for the better I'd say.

I hope those of you who haven't done the flash yet have as good of a result as I have had.

Finally got a hand calculated mileage done on mine today, first since flash. I was getting 18.5 hand calc and 17.8 overhead prior to the flash. Now getting 18.5 hand calc and 19.3 overhead. So, it seems like a push on the fuel mileage. On the up side, engine acceleration at high RPM is much better. It used to flatten out above 2700 RPM. I now get a good charge right up to redline. Power levels seem to be the same. Seem to be getting a little more eng noise, compared to before, under moderate throttle. Best described as Spark knock on a high performance gasser eng trying to run on rewgular gas. All in all, just for the high RPM acceleration, I'd say it was worth it.

So far it looks like I *might* have about 1mpg more, which is actually what the TSB promised. Now that we are going to winter fuel, that will be negated.

Overhead was accurate within 0.2 before, now it's 1.5 high.

Never had the white smoke issue; and the pinging is still there. Really, the best thing I got out of this flash was the better transmission performance. Holds gears longer when accelerating, especially uphill.

Well, I'm definitely going to have mine done. I was going through fuel receipts from my trip to the dunes last weekend. I pull a 26' Toyhauler that weighs in about 7k. Mileage from Phoenix to the dunes was 9.28mpg hand calculated. I was running about 70-75 all the way there. It's still better than the 5.2mpg I got last year when I was pulling the same trailer with the my old '98 2500 with the V10. Unloaded I'm only seeing around 14mpg, maybe 15 if I baby it a lot.

got the reflash done a couple of weeks ago at 30k and noticed an immediate improvement in mileage (1-2 mpg towing and 2-4 mpg empty). also white smoke on cold day cold startup noticeably reduced. computer mileage more accurage, too.

I had mine done and all I got was more black smoke with acceleration and smoother shifts. and about a .5 mph increase. I wonder if I got the flash for smoother shifting? I think it's 18-007-04.

Anybody

Jamie.
