TSB 18-007-04 Reflash...has it helped???

If anyone out there who has a 2004.5 that was getting poor mileage and then had the reflash for hesitation done...has it helped with mileage?

I am sure they did it because of the reflash sticker. I know it did not do anything good but I am not shure if it made it worse or not. Mine ONLY does it when it is around 35 deg. or colder. It seemed to mayby be a litte worse but it only got down that cold a few times after the reflash. now its to warm to tell. Im posotive the first time it drops down to that temp again the miss will be back. The one thing I dide notice is that it seems to be worse the colder it gets. On mornings when it was in the 20's it was far worse than the mornings in the low 30's. On a side note it seems to be smoking a little baby bit at start-up now. Engine build date is 1-5-04. best milage sofar is around 18 with 500 miles on the truck. Its been sitting around 15 ever sence.

I have been to two different dealers...3 different times and this is what has happened.
1. 1st dealer said they reflashed it but there is no sticker...no difference.
2. 2nd dealer said there was a bad injector and they "replaced it" and checked for updates or possible reflash. Still no sticker or no difference.
3. Went back to the 2nd dealer again...asked to talk to diesel mechanic...and he said that they had heard noise from #1 injector and swapped #1 and #2 and it made no difference ( remember they had supposedly put a new injector in) I continued to talk to this mechanic and he tried to blame driving style, fuel quality, newer engine (10,000 miles) and then he said "we will try the reflash...I thought I did last time but I will do it". They called back this afternoon and said they found nothing wrong and no flashes were available.
My question is:
Is poor fuel mileage, rough idle, smoking when idling, hesitation when very cold, and excessive clatter reason enough to proceed with the lemon law since the next trip will be my fourth one.

I know that mine was done. Mileage was not affected. Seems smoother and the hesitation that I had from 1800-2200 is gone.

I am learning that this engine is very sensitive to hard accel and RPMS. at 4500 miles, I am routinely getting just under 600 miles per tank (filled up to the neck--15 minute process the way the tank vents ), computer reporting right at 14 with actual calculated at 15.3 unloaded. In other words, turbo whistle and over 2,000 and the mileage comes right down. Still seeing mileage improvement.

I have 6 speed, dually, 4.10 rear end.

if you are getting just under 600 miles per tank and only avg. 15.3 mpg are you running the tank completly dry? I just got back from virginia last night and I ran 85mph all the way got 674 miles out of the last tank and filled it full on 31.4 gallons I'm still very happy with the 600 sorry you still have problems with yours dwhite

Pretty close I imagine. I saw a post here or on TDR where a guy ran 30 miles past 0 on the computer and then dropped the tank to alter the venting. To his surprise, he still found 2 gallons in the tank. Running to 30 past 0 on the computer results in about a 38 gallon fill to the top of the neck. This puts me into the 580-595 mile range per tank.

I am getting 450 miles per tank. I let the fuel light stay on for awhile also and it usually takes 35 gallons of fuel to the neck...just like clockwork....always 450 miles on 35 gallons of fuel or about 12.8mpg. I hate this...and will not rest until something is done that will help it.

What a bummer. How many miles are you up to? Also, have you considered changing your fuel supplier? Try a high volume truck stop and see if it helps.

007 did nothing for me....037 has changed mpg by about 1 mpg and made the engine quieter and smoother. It also makes the overhead computer lie on the high side.

I have been fortunate to have much better results and the computer actually reads lower than hand calculated. I have learned that the magic RPM to stay under for MPG is 2000 and to take it easy on the takeoffs. Idling also seems to be very detrimental to overall MPG. If I set the cruise at 60 with my dually 4x4 with 4.10's, my last tank produced just over 19 MPG, while the overhead reported 17.1. I was STUNNED. This stretches a tank unloaded into the 650 mile range--very nice. I have yet to tow since having the 037 flash, but I am extremely satisfied with the results so far.

With the last tank faring so well, I am going to do a tank at 65 to see the delta as this will put me just over the 2000 rpm mark. Results to follow. At $2.06 per gallon, I think that I can afford to run a little slower if it will produce the results that I obtained on my last tank.
