Truck Wont Fire With First Turn of The Key
Hello, I'm new to the site and had a question. Every once in awhile when I go out to start my truck it wont fire up after 4 seconds of cranking it over. I turn the key back off and wait a few seconds then try again. Then it fires rite up. Is this normal, or is there a problem somewhere? When it starts after the second try it doesn't sputter or blow any white smoke and there aren't any codes or engine lights on either.

There is a reflash for this. Do a search on this site for 06 hard to start and the tsb should show up. Theres also a site you can go to find tsb's and print it out and take it to your dealer. Just tell them you want it done. Someone else may chime in to give you the link to the site. More than likely this will cure your problem.

Thanks for the info it was very helpful. I'll have the dealer do the reflash and let you know if it worked. I did have the truck reflashed a year ago because it was throwing a code for low battery temperture. Are these two differant reflash's that needed to be performed or should the one I had done a year ago fix the hard starting problem as well?

try to get the truck re-flashed anyway- alot of dealers don't want to throw people free re-flashes under warranty even if it's something that might fix a problem. had to contact the service mgr. to finally get mine done for a cold start issue even though there was a tsb for it.

On a related note my '03 occasionally is hard to start.
Yesterday after sitting maybe 20 minutes it took three tries and more cranking on the third try to light off. Like the OP no white smoke or codes.
Usually it starts on the first hit and MAYBE two revolutions.
Not worried about it, just commenting.

since receiving the re-flash the cold start issue has gone away. it seems that the re-flash has increased fueling to the truck as even when running on stock settings it does'nt feel like stock used to- even double checked to see if anything was accidently left on tow mode.
