Truck tries to fire then doesn't
Sometimes when it's sat and it's cold 50 and below, if I go to start the truck the grid heaters cycle like normal when I go to start it....It turns over like normal, then sounds like it goes to hit but misses and cranks a couple evolutions more. When it does that, I stop cranking, and then crank again immediatly and it fires off no problems what so ever. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks
Ps. it did it before the smarty and I no longer have the smarty on it and it does it. It's happened like 4 times this winter, just random times. It started in 12 degrees not plugged in, but did it this morning at 55....Go figure

Make sure that you have clean fuel filter. It sounds like the you're not having enough rail pressure (lack of fuel). It also could be the fuel rail pressure releaf valve going south.
Start with an DTCs & then you're going to need gauges for your fuel to the CP3 and at the rail for you to narrow things down some more. Check to make sure that you're not having diesel in you oil.
it's tough to say without any more info.
I know that when it's really cold out I have to cycle the grid heaters twice because of fuel being to cold (thick, not jelled). It will do the same thing there.
