Truck terrible in snow/ wheel hop
#31
I agree. I have always been very happy with the performance of my truck in the snow. As long as the tires are in good shape I've never had an issue. With either the 07 or my 97. I do get some wheel hop, but it's not bad. Someday i'll get some tractions bars to get rid of it completely.

These trucks are OK on the road with a few inches of snow, but get in about 6” of snow off road with a bit of an incline and you are done. The first time it happened to me I thought I was going to destroy the drive train and get bounced out the window.
I put on some “el-cheepo” traction bars and clamped the front of the springs, but it still bounces a bit. I was saving up for some of those Glacier bars, but he stopped making them.
I don’t like the whole single bar, “binding” setups, so I’m SOL for now. I know flame me; I might have to go with a set for many other vehicles will embarrass these trucks in the snow, or sand for that matter.

The bars that I posted are the "el-cheepo" traction bars. They are 30" long and just under $100. Were they worth the $ and effort?

My 2004.5 is the worst truck I have ever owned in the snow.
The anti spin in the rear is worthless IMO.
Its so bad its embarrassing.
The dual purpose leafs help the hop, but traction is still poor.

What is your tire pressure??
Run it a little lower then the recommended air pressure.
I run in soft, loose dry sand a lot and when the going gets tough I lower the air pressure a lot. Like down to 15-20 lbs. Can't drive road speed like that though.
But I have an air compressor with me so I can air them back up once I get back on pavement.

I hated my crappy ride and the wheel hop in my 06 mega cab. I didn't want to spend the money, but after i did i was very pleased. I have the kore chase series and a set of ladder bars from rize. The whole pickup is way more comfortable, and it gets used hard, i am in the custom harvesting business and run in and out of feilds all day. Oh and since Kore is a baja race suspension i had to test it out. So yeah i've jumped it and it lands soft, and still can pull the big loads down the road. You may think its to much to spend but once you've done it you will wonder why its not a factory option!

They do help; for $100, the situation is better, for ~$700-$900 you can eliminate it. It is all about the coin, I threw the ~$130 bars on for now and will upgrade when I have extra $$$.
