Truck runs rough.

Truck runs rough.
I now have 17,000 miles and changed the air filter and fuel filter with 7micron about 2,000 miles ago. When I changed the fuel filter it ran like a new truck, didn't realize the loss of power until I changed the filter.
For the last 10,000 miles or so it started to develope a vibration that I could feel in the steering wheel at idle at both cold and hot and then I started to feel it at 45 mph driving the 5 miles to work but not at hiway speeds. The vibration is not always there, just some days.
It sometimes idles rough, not a miss just rough, no codes. When its below 35 degrees in the morning there is a whistle noise that I hear for about a 1/4 mile and goes up and down with rpm until I get up to 45 mph then it goes away. When I got off work the other day it made that noise for about 15 minutes at 25-35 mph the quit, louder and the first time that its done it in the afternoon. I sometimes think I smell diesel but open the hood and can't see anything wet or can notice the smell to tell where it is coming from and it seems to have loss of power like before the fuel filter change.
Any ideas so I don't have to go to the dealer? Thanks.

Check your oil level. if it's higher than normal, you could have an injector messed up and dumping fuel into the crankcase. I have heard of injector failures causing the symptoms you describe and the oil level could help tell you if its that.............

It is called cold weather diesel operation and short trips. If your commute is only 5 miles, you are making charcoal. They change how they sound and act when it's winter and with the winter blend diesel. The whistle noise sounds like the 'hoot owl' syndrome. Just do a search.

Oil level is fine and it was doing it before the cold weather, today it was 50 degrees or so and it ran rough as usual and the noise was there too, then at 55 mph ran fine and no noise.
Where do you get sea foam?
