Truck loses power at higher rpms

My neighbor's '04.5 loses power and cuts out at higher rpms (sounds like >2000rpm). No mods. Fuel filter replaced, WIF drained. Says drain petcock sometimes "inhales air" (pulls vacuum) when cracked open. Has the in-tank lift pump, but no fuel pressure gauge. Any ideas?

Sure sounds like he's not getting fuel.... Gauges would help, but can you test the pump to see how much fuel he's getting?

yep, gotta have that fuel pressure number taken between the filter and the inj pump. Without knowing what kinda pressure the inj pumps is seeing you might be getting 10-12 psi when it's idling but when the fuel requirement of full throttle/load or high rpm under load it's just a question.
A F.P. gauge should be the first thing people put on these trucks when they buy them. Shoooot, it shoud be standard equipt.
