Truck is in the dealer...

Took the trruck into the dealer today for an oil change (2500 miles) to get all the breaking stuff out of the engine.. had a coupon and figured what the heck I'll try... Got the oil and filter change for 24.95 !!!!!!!

also the reflash for my 315 tires is 47.00 and asked them about a knock in the engine when in drive.. It is getting louder and louder..

This is the interesting part... Truns out that it is common on the single rail injector systems and DC is well aware of this problem.. the #1 injector rail vibrates and knocks after the truck warms up.. They are going to call a dodge rep out to verify that is the problem. The Service writer was real honest when I asked him how his diesel mechanic was.. he said he is a great mechanic but sometime has trouble diagnosing things so whenever they get a diesel in they just have the Dodge service rep come out and verify before working on the trucks.. But he is a great parts changer!!

Got to give them an Atta Boy for being honest...

At least the Service writer seems to know whats up with gthe CTD..

All the common rails "thump" on the #1 line. It's not the cause of any engine noise.

Gerry, glad to know you have what seems to be a decent service dept manager... My dealer is the same way, but thier diesel mechanic supposedly really has his head on straight.. Hell, he even asked me when I was gonna put gauges on my truck, after he'd fixed the dead lift pump

I sure hope so... I was looking around the TDR site and there is a post on there with a sound clip of a 05 with the same knock.. his was a bad injector.. He has a before and after sound clip. all the post there were very helpful describing how the diagnose which injector ect.. the TDR site explains how to shut down each injector via the computer to find out which one is knocking. then the strange part, DC has them swap the injector with one of the others before orderinga new injector. And it works some of the time. real interesting thread..

I guess I'll find out today the results.. til then stuck in my 15 year old S-10 argggg.... at least it is still shines and runs good..

I change my oil every 5k, just for kicks. Also change my fuel filter every 15k.. Didnt seem to do any good, as my lift pump went out at 22.5k, but you know.. Still gotta do it. Gerry, I hope the dealer gets everything figured out with your truck. I didnt get any free oil changes with my purchase of the truck, but I change the oil and fuel filter myself anyhow.

this dealer is cheap.. they don't give anything for free... but they give 1 heck of a deal on their trucks.. it was stickered at 46,880. they had it marked down to 40,660 and with the rebates ect I paid 35,075 before tax.lic/fees....

With the extended bumper to bumper warranty 6/70 it came to just over 40,000 out the door... But no free services.. at least they filled the gas tank for me that was an extra 100.00 or so.

Heck they don't even wash it for you.. take it in clean comes out filthy.

First oil change is on D.C. D.C.gives the DEALER moneys to cover the FIRST oil change on all NEW VEHICLES they sell.I'd change oil on a NEW engine at 3700 miles and NOT 7500. Bet their REP loves them if he gets a call evertime a complaint or question on a diesel! Number 1 injector line is the LONGEST and does not have the SUPPORT the others do.Its a been a thumping ever since 3rd generations deput.

They have been workingon it all day... They seem to think it is more than the #1 thump... It only clatters after you drive it for about 4 or 5 miles and it warms up to the full 210 degrees. Tomorrow they are going to warm it up again get it knocking and start tuning off the injectors 1 at a time via the computer and see when the knock stops..

Guess we will see... at least they are trying hard to fix it rather than just say "sounds like a diesel to me"

Heck, Lithia gave me lifetime oil changes as the deal sealer. Each time I go in, it feels like another discount off of the deal. 8 free and counting.

Gerry, Where did you get this discount coupon? Did the dealer mail it to you? I bought my 05 from a friend of mine who works at a dealer. I'd call him and ask about the free first oil change, but the dealership is 1.5 hours away. It would be easier if I did it myself.

Yes the dealer regularly sends me a reminder that the truck is due for service and cupons for the service.. The coupon does say "diesels extra"

I don't drive alot of miles of a vehicle.. my last vehicle was a 99 durango and I sold it in may with 37K miles on it...
My other truck is a 90.5 Chevy S-10 and it just rolled to 70K
