Transmition problem

I have a 2007 4x4 2500 cumins automatic. We went fishing saturday and as my fishing partner was going to pull my boat out from the water. He couldn't get the truck to move. Some how he moved it from the parking space to the boat ramp. But then he was going to go up the hill a beat more and the truck would not move. The dash board would say that it was in 4th gear and my "D" from drive was gone from the dash board. He could put it on "R" but not "D" it had a #4 instead of a "D". The dash board looked like this P R N 4. Then I got to the truck and sure enough the D was gone. So I turned the truck off and then on again and I got the P R N D and the truck worked perfect and the #4 was gone. Is this something that I should worry about or what could have casued the 4 to re-place D for drive? He sayed that he didn't move the up and down gears on the shifter. But he might have done it accidently.

Thanks inn advance,
Ace4u
