Transmission temp rising in idle or in bumper to bumper traffic
I have a quality transmission temp guage installed in my 05 on the output line from the transmission. It runs really cool on highway speeds even when pulling my 5th wheel. Usually around 160 or so. However, when sitting in traffic or running in bumper to bumper slow crawl traffic I have seen it spike to 220. I thought hard pulling made the transmission heat up, not sitting still. Is there a problem here? I know when backing up and the torque converter is not locked you can see temperatures spike but apparently anytime the torque converter is unlocked it can move the temperature up.
Anyone experience this???
