TRANSMISSION SWAP ? '07 5.9L to '04 5.9L

So here is the deal. Friend's ATS stage 4 in his 2007 5.9L broke, sent back to ATS they warrenty and send back. He has BD build him a $9000 bulletproof tranny and has the ATS stage 4 for sale. I want to put it in my 2004.5 5.9L. Will it work ? Both trucks are 4x4. Thanks for any and all help on this. The price is good on the ATS so I really hope it will work.

I'm not much up on the autos but from what I have learned on here you should be fine. Both trucks used the same 48RE auto and should have the same electronics.

Thanks! At this point ATS has told me NO it won't and one other good source told me that it shouldn't be a problem. I don't want to waste the time to install without knowing for sure. I know that the Trans controller won't work, but I can order the right one later.

I'm sure someone else will chime in with a better answer for ya.

Did ATS tell you why it won't work?

OK Got it figgered out. It won't work because my truck is not a 2004.5 as I thought(I'm a retard I guess, for just believing the guy I bought it from). Build date of 04\04 makes it a bigger piece of junk tranny then I already thought.

05' and up trucks have the TV motor due to drive by wire. 04.5' and older have a TV cable that is hooked to the APPS. The newer tranny can be used you just need to swap a few things. 06 oh no should be able to answer what will need to be swapped.

Your truck is an 04.5 truck. all builds from 01/04 and up in 04 are 04.5 trucks.

I KNOW!!! I would normally doubt it but I saw the invoice myself. The truck it goes in is putting down 695rwhp though.

I called Dodge up today and did in fact find out that yes it is a 2004.5 48re\5.9l HO and will work!!! Thanks everyone for your help and imput.

Doesn't Goerend build a trans that they claim is bulletproof? I mean realistically it just has to be stronger than the driveshaft behind it... $9K is about $2K too much methinks...

Hey, hope you can get that sucker in place and get it working!!!

You could put that transmission and 03 with a 47RE and it would work fine.

You will have no issues installing in your truck, everything important is the same.
