Unhappy Transmission problems

I parked my truck last night, today I started it up and headed for work I drove down the street (25-30mph) 1 mile or so stopped at stop light. The light turned green I gave the truck some pedal, it felt like I was spinning the rear a bit but the ground was wet so I thought nothing of it. I drove 5 more miles (35-40) to the freeway onramp. I reached the Shift point of 45mph then 50 then 60 but the transmission would not shift into over drive I even let off the go pedal still no shift, I tried pressing the over drive button, nothing happened. I still continued to go on my way to work even though it would not shift into over drive I kept my speed around 60-65mph about 2600 – 2700 rpms. Nothing else seemed to be wrong until about 13 miles on the freeway coming up a slight grade the rpms jump up to around 3000 I backed off the pedal the rpms dropped back down to the 2600-2700 range. I pressed the over drive button again tuning off over drive (even thought it was not shifting anyway) gave it some pedal and the rpms went up again. I drove the rest of the way to work under light pedal (it was even slipping in 1st-3rd) then I checked the transmission fluid the color looked good, smelled ok and the level was correct. This is the truck in my signature, I don’t tow or load heavy only dirt bikes and a 12ft enclosed trailer maybe 3000lbs, on the weekend, 34000 miles on the truck. There have never been any signs that something was wrong until now. I’m glad that it is still under warranty. I’ll be taking it in this afternoon. Does anyone know a good place to take it to in a 20mile radius to Everett Wa. Any suggestions about the problem (I think it is the toque converter) or a good shop would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David

I can't help you on a place to take it, however, the question is did you have the TSB's done for the tranny? There are 2 out there that I know about, go to the Dodge home page and look up the owners section, then enter your last 8 digits of your VIN it will let you know.
It does sound like the tranny is not warming up to allow it to shift into OD. The computer won't let it shift until the fluid is warm enough, mine would do somthing similar during the winter time.

Thanks for the info SuperGewl, I enter my last 8 digits of my vin and i get this message in red "No Incomplete Recalls or Customer Satisfaction Notifications Exist ". I did take it in for a few TSB's when my rear slider latch broke so they might have performed the ones you speek of. I'll be at least calling a dealer down the street during my lunch to se if they will check it out today.

I called the dealer that I purchased the truck from and they said that they would diagnose and fix it and get me a rental car at DC expense although this will not happen until Tuesday. The services manager said he thought it would be ok to drive until then if I did not tow or drive long distances. I feel this is good service, I just hope it works until Tuesday.

Mine had similar symptoms. Would not shift into overdrive and the shift points were off in other gears. The dealer had to replace the PCM and wiring harness due to corrosion. This occurred the same week the recall for the PCM/trans wiring harness came out. Good thing your is still covered under warranty.

Today I drop off the truck at the dealer (8:00am as scheduled). They got me a rental car at their expense or DC’s in a timely manner (made it to work on time at 9:00, 30 min away). They called me at 1:30PM and let me know what’s was wrong (Transmission Control module) and to let me know it would be ready tomorrow afternoon. I’ll post more details after I pick the truck up.

So I dropped off the rental car and was driven to the dealer to pick up my truck. Every thing was great the service people where nice and everything was above my expectations they treated me like I was a king. They replaced the Transmission Control module and reprogrammed it. It cost me zero dollars and free cents I was very pleased.
I started driving home and guess what? Yep, No Over Drive. I called as soon as I got on the freeway and noticed it would not go into overdrive. Service Manager said “Bring it back in tomorrow and we’ll get you another car to drive until we get it fixed.”. They really are nice; however I thought they would have driven it after they fixed it to make sure it was indeed fixed. Now he thinks, don’t quote me on this but I believe he said pressure solenoid. Does that mean they have to pull the transmission and drain it?
Well that’s the update. I will look forward to seeing the gal at the rental car place again.

I dropped the truck off again today, this time I talked to the tech. He thinks that it is the harness that is defective and the water has leached though the connector and as corroded the wires. I will point out that I did take it in for the recall some time ago, and I have not driven the truck in standing water (over ½ inch) or rain in several months, only on wet roads.

I guess that I’ll have to wait until it gets fixed to see what the problem is.

I did get to see the hot chick at the rental car company again.
