TRANSMISSION KEEPS BREAKING 3 TIME 11000 MILES
MY TRUCK IS A 2003 2500 DIESEL WITH 11,000 MILES AND I'VE HAD IF FOR 5 MO. AT 6000 (8-17-03) MILES THE OVERDRIVE HOUSEING CRACKED, THIS WAS REPLACED., 9-5-03 THE NEW OVERDRIVE HOUSING CRACKED. THIS TIME THE DEALER REPLACED OVERDRIVE AND TRANS, ALSO REPLACED DRIVE SHAFT AS THEY BELEIVED IT WAS OUT OF BALANCE I GOT THE TRUCH BACK ON 9-19-03 (AFTER 14 DAYS IN THE SHOP) ON 9-26-03 THE OVERDRIVE SHAFT SEAL STARTED TO LEAK.TWO OVERDRIVE UNITS ONE TRANS AND NOW A OVERDRIVE LEAK IN SIX WEEK. HAS ANY ONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO HAVE A VIBERATION BETWEEN 75 AND 80 MPH. I BELEIVE SOMETHING IS OUT OF LINE OR OUT OF BALANCE TO CAUSE THESE PROBLEMS. OTHER THAN THAT THE TRUCK RUNS GREAT.

You don't say whether you have the 47 or 48 tranny. Should fill in your sig and we will know what you drive. Sounds like the original problem was not diag. properly.
Oh BTW typing in caps is YELLING. Yes I am sorta deaf but can read.. Good luck.
(note to the mods: Is this better? thanks)

Re:TRANSMISSION KEEPS BREAKING 3 TIME 11000 MILES
I don't know if its a 47 or 48 its a 3 speed automatic with overdrive. First problem was a cracked overdrive houseing, this was replaced. three weeks later same thing this time the dealer replaced transmission, overdrive section and drive shaft which was out of balance, one week later the output shaft seal on a the new unit has developed a leak.
Ive been told by a few people that it should have a 1/2" spaceer at the center support bracket , so that the angle od drop would be less. the dealer told me this is only needed if the truck is raised. I went under the truck last night and the second section of the drive shaft does not appear to be in line with the first section. It seems to angle off toward the drivers side by about 1/2", I will need to measure to make sure of this, Could this shift to the right and the drop from the center support cause stress on the U-Joint at the connection to the overdrive unit.

I think 3 times for the same problem qualifies you for the lemon law. Tell them you are fed up and want a new truck... And this time get one with the 48RE automatic...

or better yet, a 6 spd.
Also, you've been asked for information about your truck in terms of the tranny type, and the truck config. Providing that info. would be most helpful if you're looking to get help out of the forums. Without that information, it's kind of hard to say anything about it.
