Transgo 48RE Shift Kits

What is the general consensus on Transgo's shift kits?

Transgo SK 48-RE shift kit for the 2003-2006 Diesel & V10 trucks. You’ll hardly believe how powerful the shifts can be without being bangy. Reduces converter slip, Increases torque capacity, reduces drainback. Has Hi-Temp Low Shrink Rings.. Along with the increased performance from your vehicle, you'll also see an increase in the life of your transmission due to the reduced slippage. This kit does include one step that requires the transmission to be out, but is only recommended if the transmission is out already. All of the important steps are inside the pan and can be performed with the transmission in the vehicle. This is the most complete shift kit available and definitely the most reputable. All Instructions are included, no special tools required.

They are rather inexpensive (can be bought for around $70), but I am just curious if they are worth it.....

I am running one right now and have installed several others. Works great! Much better than the previous versions of the TransGo kits.

Yes, all the parts go in the VB and one in the case. FOLLOW ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY! DO NOT ADD ANY OTHER TECH! Dont deviate from the instructions unless you know and understand exactly what your doing and what those changes do.

A couple of tips, these are options in the kit and options only. One is a hole is for a snowplow application. If you never plan to use your truck for plowing snow, dont use that option. I woudnt anyway if I did use it for plowing.

Second, there is an optional throttle valve spring for later shifts. That means higher RPM. Only use this spring if you have the mods for a 4000+ RPM engine. They normally defuel at 3200 RPM. Use of this spring will cause a no shift at WOT because the engine quits pulling at 3200 WOT. Should be cosidered a race only option for high RPM.

Keep your work area clean, dont use cloth rags. Lint hangs valves and plugs the gov sensor and solonoid. Clean solvent and air dry is plenty. The removal of the OD accumalator is easy for modding, but be carefull, two springs and a aluminum plug will go flying if you dont pay attention. Go slowly and pay attention to every detail and you will be fine.

what does the snow plowing option do ? i drilled it out since i plow, and i dont have power from the second i floor, feels like it slips alot. I also only found one accumulator spring when i took it out, i figured one went flying. All i found was the big fat spring and the plastic accumulator, is there anything else i am missing besides the other spring?

I also added the higher rpm throttle spring, why don' they state what it does in the directions? I guess i need to get some parts and take that spring out now

Be careful when disassembling the VB sections. There will be springs and parts that will shoot out. Also, there are several small ***** that are in there too. Most are 1/4" but 1 is a little bigger and 1 is a little smaller. The transgo instructions are ****. Follow them in order even though they are scattered around. take pics of what springs and where they came from so when you go to reassemble the right springs will go to the right spot.

Is this an alternative to an aftermarket VB? I'm running a BD Torque converter and VB right now.

i agree, it is worth it but go slow, follow directions and have a clean work space. Only problem i have noticed is a hard, loud downshift from 3rd to 1st when off the throttle and coasting to a stop. happens about 12 mph. called transgo and they said it is common and ok. Really havent noticed any problems because of it.

Forgot to add that some have 2 springs and some have 1 spring in the 1-2 Accumulator. Mine only had 1. Yes, it is an alternative instead of purchasing a VB. This adds more line pressure but not as much as an aftermarket VB.

i love mine makes the truck way more fun to drive and shifts like it should. actually if you read alot of posts the trans go provides more line pressure than most valve bodies it just ramps up the pressures differently !

I installed the Transgo until I can get a Goerend and I love the improvement in shifting. It's the best bang for the buck performance wise that I have spent.
