trans temp sending unit location
I have my tranny temp sending unit in the hot line going to the cooler. I really don't think this is the best place but that is where they put it with the new transmission. Anyways, what should I being seeing for high temps under extreme conditions? Thanks

I think that is the BEST place if you want to get a instant read on how hot the fluid is. ( Thats how I plumbed mine )
Mine rarely ever exceeds 200F, but havent pushed it hard towing, and its flat around here.

X2 on the location! Most accurate readings is fluid coming out of the converter. Mine reads mostly under 200* as well, but when towing the camper ( 29' 7k lb. ) I did see it at 215*, but only when I was accelerating hard.

I tow a 11K+ fifth wheel and have the sensor on the cooling line. I watch it carefully, especially when pulling hard up hills and have managed to keep it at 195* or lower except once or twice. Synthetic fluids can tolerate more heat but even with those you should avoid overheating. There are web sites that can give you specifics but I can't recall just what they are.
Just keeping the T/C locked up helps a lot.

Thanks for the responses guys. Mine usually runs from 150-180 going done the road locked up, but I have seen it spike to over 225 at very low speeds under a hard load. I will say that it does cool down quickly just idling or going down the road.
