trans shift problem
#17
The OE gov solenoid and transducer have a useful life around 40k before they start getting weird. The aftermarket solenoids seem to last longer so it just depends.

WOw...this is a GREAT tip. My tranny has been hanging horribly between first and second even after replacing the gov transducer and solenoid, adjusting the bands, etc. I thought I would need a full on rebuild. Last night by accident I stumbled on this thread while searching the net for used trannies. Took 5 minutes to adjust the cable in one click and it was an IMMEDIATE difference. Still a bit of a shuttle under load, adjust one more notch, and its like it was stock! I can now go from a dead stop and WOT through all the gears without lifting. THANKS man....I wish I found this 4 months ago. I've been limping this truck for easily that long and this fixed it. To ANYONE WHO HAS THE 1-2 SHUTTLE SHIFT, TRY THIS FIRST. ITS FREE and if it doesn't work, then buy the transducer and solenoid...

You can look forever and never find it on your trucks.
The TV cable was replaced with the TTVA motor in MY2005.
Here is one way to adjust the TTVA motor to do the same thing the TV cable does on the older trucks.
Remove the TTVA
Remove lower cover - Metal cover that is clamped with metal tangs. Remove cover carefully so the gears do not fall out.
If you turn the shaft counterclockwise, looking at the actuator up side down, it can result in codes 1751 and 1754.
Adjusted the shaft one tooth CLOCKWISE.

If the 1/8" grooves in the cable adjustment on the engine mounted APPS's, is not quite correct...one way or the other...you can bend/tweak the bracket at the transmission to fine tune. I am not sure if this would apply to the trucks without the engine mounted APPS or not. What do you say 6?

Ok, looks like I found it. Remove from the harness. Remove two torx screws and pop the tangs. Now, is it mounted upside down on the vehicle? How do I know which way is up so that I turn the gear the right direction?
EDIT: Think I removed the wrong thing. Another actuator mounted on lower...right on top of the pan. Spewed fluid...that sweat shirt is done...no catch pan on the ready. Anyway, that actuator had 13 tangs and was about the size of a business card. It had no gears on the inside.
Looking further on top of the shift lever I see a tower. Guessing that the TTVA is mounted there? It has two 1/2"-9/16" bolts to remove it from the tranny. It is way up high and hard to access. Is this right?

Mine is 2003 48re and it wants shuttle shift between 2/3 and is a little slow going into 4th. Have thought it might be Solenoid was going to up grade. What do you think?

Got it off. Hardest part after that was getting the metal cover off. Rotated the gear and test drove. Seems good so far. I am still getting some flaring at WOT, but it looks like the shuttle is gone.
