Will hold my tongue about the MASTER thats says NOT to flush.Any way slightly OVER full HOT on D.C. autos is not a bad thing.

I had just the opposite hapen to me. Went in got tranny serviced. Afte a long roadtrip, parked it to fuel up. Drove away and noticed a big puddle of fluid under truck. I thought something was major wrong . Pulled dipstick out and was almost 2 quarts over full after draining off what was needed to get the level to the full line. The dealer "no-tech" abviously checked and added fluid while it cold and not running . Thank goodness for the drain plug on my tranny pan.

Look for posts by Tim Holt - something about a flush, if done by an hourly guy just following directions (as opposed to a master tech who's been around the block a few times) can cause problems by picking up bits of trash and forces it through the valve body and other highly sensitive places.

Whatever, it makes sense to me and I'll never have a 'flush' done by a McTranny shop - I'll just drain the Mag-Hytec and fill 'er up with +4 or +3 / LubeGuard.
A very reputable tranny builder here in San Diego just launched a radio campaign disowning the flush system that until recently,they encouraged. DTT installer @ Desert Diesel Parts doesn't go for it either. He evacuates all old fluid out of vehicle but doesn't use a reverse flush machine or anything like that. Everybody's got an opinion.

Not being a "trained" tech, or even a good do it yourselfer, I would say that a flush is being used to try and "clean" a tranny that has not been taken care of. I would think regular changing would pull out what needs to be removed. If it has had a long interval before, just change out more often to help clean it then get back to regular changes

I have done many quick changes on engine and tranny fluids on used vehicles I have bought, just to clean them up. Just a couple of times and the fluids start looking like they are supposed to at regular intervals

My guess is that an untrained tech could hook up the hoses to the wrong fittings and run the flush the wrong way. Also the 48RE required the ATF +4 fluid. If you use the wrong fluid the tranhny will not shift correctly and sooner or later the tranny will fail or do serious damage. I have heard that the AmsOil and Valvoline +4 are a few of the few +4 compatable fluids out there. Someone also said that there is a +4 additive that can be added but personaly I have not seen it. To my knowledge Damiler Chrysler is the only manufacturer that required +4 fluid so a general (Quick Oil Change places among others) probably has just a generic fluid available not +4 compatable.

Auto flush(really fliud EXCHANGE is what they do) machines best thing to happen to a auto trans and consumer since sliced bread.

went to dealer today!!!

first I want to thank everyone for your help,went to dealer today,$87 later they say everthing checks out ok! they did set the throttle kickdown cable. I guess this is a small price I payed to have peace of mind when I pull my 12,000 lb. fifth wheel .thanks again ,PS this is a great site to get help

I'm having a problem myself on the 02. I went to the dealer and had them replace a bad line pump which was still under warranty. They said you need a "oil change, front/rear diff, serp belt, battery maint, new brakes and a few other things". Now the truck doesn't hardly shift out of 1st gear, and sometimes doesn't shift out of 2nd gear. I know they messed around in there, but don't know what was done. I guess thats what I get for taking my truck to the dealer. I know they just wanted some money since everything I had done was under warranty. This is the same dealer who told me I didn't make enough money to afford one of the trucks on their lot. I went to the dealer beside them and drove a new "powerjoke" home. Great truck, but nothing like the cummins. Oh well.
