Trans Clutch Disks - How do I know how much is left?
Hello everyone, I have a 48RE - How do I know how much meat I have left on my trans clutch disks before they are metal on metal? Seems like a simple question - is there a simple answer?
Thanks

Only way too see clutch wear is to dis assemble the packs and look at the wear grooves on the clutch surface. There are diagonal lines on the face of the clutch...if they are just about gone or non existant then its time to replace. You also want to look for hot spots on the steels and lay them on a flat surface to check for warpage.
Bands..you want to look for blackening and thinning of the material.

If its nice and pink and smells like good trans fluid...then all indications are that the internals are working properly.
This is all provided that you havent changed the fluid in the last 5000 mi.
