Tranny slip/bucking at low speeds?

Maybe it is just me, but after replacing my transmission three times in my previous 98.5 2500, I keep a close ear on the tranny in my 06. Maybe someone in the world of DTR has experienced this too???

What I've noticed with my 06 is that at low speeds and slllooowww acceleration (really slow), right between 13 and 15 mph, when it is getting ready to shift, the tranny starts bucking ever so slightly--almost like a clutch slipping but it only does that in those conditions. It will eventually take the next gear after about 3-5 seconds of this "bucking". At higher acceleration, no problems at all--it drops right into gear. I can't tell you what the RPMs are, since it's an 06 and my tach is shot.

The truck is an 06 2500 4x4 with the 48RE automatic transmission (or so I've been told--can't seem to locate any model number on the tranny at all). It has about 115,000 miles, and at 100,000 I changed the tranny fluid, replaced the filter, and adjusted the front and rear bands. The tranny fluid is at the proper level, so we know that's not part of the issue.

Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Is this a sign that I'm about to join the 06 tranny club? Should I buy stock in Jasper now, or wait until it gets worse?

Sounds like the Governor Pressure Sensor Soleniod...48 RE OEM soleniod is well known to cause this 'shift pulsating' effect you are referring to...especially noticable between 1st and 2nd gear shifts when moving slowly.

Someone will chime in with aftermarket info as these are available much cheaper than the OEM part from the dealer...which runs about $160. Not to tough to change. You can get to it when you drop the pan.

Thanks for the reply. I read the sticky thread about this problem, and how to fix it, but what are the consequences if you wait another 35-85K to address the problem? Will this shudder continue and eventually destroy the tranny?

I highly doubt you will have any issues other than feeling the first to second shift point...I drove mine for 100,000 miles plus before I finally did the fix and that was by choice as I was doing a tranny fluid/filter change and decided it was time. Once you are in second gear and have fluid pressure built up, you are good to go.

As far as hurting the tranny...not likely!!

That's what I was hoping to hear--that I could take care of this at the next fluid/filter change... What can I say, I'm cheap!

Contact Transtar Industries, they can sell you the better Borg solenoid and new pressure sensor. Install those, adjust the bands, replace the fluid and filter... you should be good to go.
When mine started doing it, I didnt allow it to continually do it, drive it harder on the throttle so it isnt fluttering back and forth until you get it fixed.
