My 06 is coming up on 30K and its time to get the trany service but I dont know if I should flush or not. Dealer recomends flush every 30K and just change every 15K

the local dealer will either drop the pan and refill and change the filter and adjust the bands or they will flush refill change the filter and adjust the bands.

The pros and cons of both I have read are
Flush= pro's u get all the fluid out completly Cons= junk can get stuck in the valve body and cause probs

No Flush= Pros its cheaper and u r less likely to get gunk in the VB Cons= You dont get all the old fluid out.

I have heard some debate..I can't remember off the top of my head but I think the manual recommends just dropping the pan. I would just do that IMHO.

I NEVER FLUSH... The flushing does change all of the fluid as promised but it also removes the particles that are also important for the trans to work correctly. I always have the pan dropped and checked for anything that does not belong. If you flush, you miss that important inspection opportunity that needs to be done. I want to know if there is anything out of the norm and that is the best way to see that. I do have mine serviced every 50,000 miles. My current millage is over 166,000 with no issues.

Drop the pan and replace. Unless you know there is internal damage to your tranny (which you will need to have it rebuilt anyways) there is no need to flush.

Fluid exchange. I have done 3 so far, no issues and do not expect any. Changed the filter only once in 67,000 miles. Tranny looked to be in pristene condition when i did have the filter changed. Very, Very little clutch dust on the magnet.

A "fluid exchange" is a very good way to get all of the old ATF+4 out of the system, while simultaneously replacing it with new fluid. I have attached a link that illustrates a basic exchange procedure.

Just change the filter and fluid and be done with it.

Dodge recommends fluid be replaced at 20k.

btw, standard tranny service at the dealer does NOT include adjusting the bands. The bands should only be adjusted if you're having issues shifting.

I like the way that Dave build's his tc with a drain plug like the older car were built.

Dodge specifically recommends NOT flushing. Pan drop, filter change and refill every 30k is my plan. Don't forget to add a drain plug after the first pan drop so you'll only have that adventure one time.

Can one of you "Fluid Exchange" haters please explain why it is not good or can cause damage ?

The fluid is pumped through the tranny, to the cooler, and back to the tranny by the transmission pump, correct ? If you remove a line and pour new in fluid and the old is pushed out with the same process - stock tranny pump doing the work - what exactly is being damaged ? This can be done with a fluid exchange machine or you can do it yourself. Do not confuse an exchange with a flush where the fluid is forced through system, I will agree that could cause issues.

There is no problem just dropping the pan, but unless you can prove how an exchange can damage a tranny, I will continue to replace 3/4 of my fluid vs 1/4.

I agree! I find that a "flush" according to many, incorporates the process of cycling a cleaning fluid through the transmission in order to dislodge and expel debris. Whereas a fluid exchange is the process of adding new ATF while removing the old ATF.

what i think most of the non flushers are saying. imo. that if you are using a maching ie b/g flushing systom is that the adative used wil cause contament --varnesh---and outher stuf to move around in side tranry an posbley cause problems .dr drizzle posted a great way to do it.. i am doing same thing to my traney know plus a few up dates.so tex. ps i removed return line at traney to pump old fluid out .but u need to be carfull to watch fluid flow and stop pumping when flow starts to change.

i have used b/g maching many times on my z71 never had a problem first flush at 75000miles second at 150000 replaced trans at 200000 miles flushed at250000 miles and know302000 thousad miles an stil runing grate.but it ant no cummings. sotex
