Tranny rebuilt!

I had the hunt 1-2 and my truck has always been a dog when taking off from a stop when towing anything including an empty car hauler flatbed, I thought it was normal until I drove another truck. I took my truck into dealer at 32,000 miles to fix these items and even gave them the tsb for the hunt but all they did was flash the tranny which did nothing.

So at 52,000 miles I take it back in for same problems and they first did the tsb which didn't fix anything so they took out the tranny and rebuilt it all for a $100 deductible.

I can tell a big difference empty, runs like it did when new but I have not towed anything yet. I will take my 32' toyhauler up to Utah next week which will tell the tale.

New: solenoid, 13 ATF fluid, seal pkg, pump pkg, core return, converter, core return, 5 plate clu, ring none, 2 plate tra, 5 disc dire.

Drove into town today empty and it still acts like it is taking off from a start in 2nd or 3rd. I got home, stopped, took off slow and w/o feeling the tranny shift I pulled the shift lever down and if shifted down to what I assume is first gear.

I am hooked onto the 5th wheel rv and I am leaving at 3 AM on a 250 mile run up to the mountains with one stretch of 15 miles of 6 % grade uphill.

Any ideas before I leave?

Guess I will find out soon!

Bark do you know Jack Foster of Foster Construction in Soldotna? We were pretty good friends when I was a lineman for Homer Electric in Homer in the late 70's.

Hook her up, put in the companies corner! your corner. You should still have a
12,000 mile warranty on the repairs from the Dodge dealer.

Let her eat pete!!

Ok it was an 8% grade! 25-30 mph and up it does fine, shifts right and plenty of power. However taking off from a stop it still takes off in 2nd or 3rd empty or loaded.

What one part could still be bad to tell it to not take off in first gear? I am still out of town for a week or more and will talk to dealer when I get back but would be nice to have some ideas for them.

Yup, not very well but he did some road and dirt work for me around 1985. Sounds like he has continued to grow his business because I have seen more of his vehicles around every year.

Noticed today that it seems like my 1-2 hunt is back as well so what would make it start out in 2nd all the time? Must be something simple for a tranny guru?????

Going back to dealer tomorrow, its worse than before they rebuilt it. Still does not take off in 1st gear, hunt is worse, surges a small bit going down the highway. At least they said I won't have to pay another $100 deductible.

Dealer said it had a code so they changed out a solenoid. It has been the same or worse, still hunts and a dog from stop.

Now when I put it in gear from park I can't feel it go into gear in D or R, I have to rev it up a little to get it to move.

I will be taking it back again but does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? Gotta be something other than what they keep trying to change.

I'm no auto guy so take what I say as hearsay only! But I have read several posts about a governor pressure solenoid causing the gear hunting, BUT the governor pressure sensor needs to be replaced along with the solenoid. There are also aftermarket parts available for this.

That said, I have to wonder if the tech at your dealer is actually diagnosing the trans of just throwing parts at it.....

I have no idea what they are doing but you would think with a rebuild and a code they could figure it out.

I have read all the posts about the aftermarket stuff but I don't want to put them in until my warranty is up.

I think I will try the TTVA adjustment detailed below, does anyone have a pic of it to know which way to turn the shaft? Also will this help the new problem I have of not feeling it go into gear?

The TV cable was replaced with the TTVA motor in MY2005.

Here is one way to adjust the TTVA motor to do the same thing the TV cable does on the older trucks.

Remove the TTVA
Remove lower cover - Metal cover that is clamped with metal tangs. Remove cover carefully so the gears do not fall out.
If you turn the shaft counterclockwise, looking at the actuator up side down, it can result in codes 1751 and 1754.
Adjusted the shaft one tooth CLOCKWISE.
