Storm Trooper....

You mentioned Japan building 1 tons. Well you may be in luck soon. Toyota will be building heavy trucks in the not to distant future. And I am almost posisitve they will be making 1 ton trucks. Production will be taking place in San Antonio Texas at the new truck plant they are building there. As for diesels I am not for sure. I had heard some rumors. Then heard some more that the diesel was postponed. Then heard more rumors about Toyota using a diesel from Hino Motors. Which is a truck company Toyota owns in Japan.

Anyway if Toyota makes a 1 ton I will be inline to take a look. I am questionable about there abilities to make a high horsepower, high torque turbo diesel. But I bet the rest of their rig would be great! Maybe Cummins or CAT can team up with them. That would be one he!! of a truck!

what do you mean part prices are out of sight?

i mean they are telling me 10k to rebuild my tranny..... or 7k aftermarket tranny. 85.00 serpitine belt . these part are REAL CHEAP??????????
the 50k dollar truck is sitting on the side of the house and will not start, and when it did run it would not even pull itself let alone the trailer i was get PAID to haul!!!!!(i'm a camper hauler)

my 86 toy with 389k (which i have to play in the weather with) with no major work done to it (other then normal maintance) fired right up.... (the last time i started it was to move the quad trailer last january.....

SO COME ON WE COULD GO AT IT ALL DAY LONG...... AND GET NO WHERE, OTHER THAN THE FACT THESE TRUCKS(japanesse) ARE GOING TO BECOME THE AMERICAN WAY. they still belive in the customer.......(THAT'S WHAT I'm GETTING AT... it's all about taking care of the customer). go to BMW pay 30k for a car and you get a LOANER CAR when yours needs fixed , FREE CAR WASHES ON SAT, PREVENTIVE MAINTANCE IS INCLUDED. 50k for a truck to look pretty sitting in the yard????? Cant even get a dealership that knows HOW TO FIX YOUR TRUCK, they just replace parts.......

For the most part its way less exspensive to repair domistics then imports. The Toyotas and Nissans DO break also.I handled both over 25 years in service depts and most of the import stuff is two to one more costly to fix.Mazda stuff is outa sight.I handled a G.M./Isuzu/Mazda service dept and the import was always more labor hours per repair order, much higher parts prices per repair order etc. Some of the imports are REAL tight on warranty claims, some rental, loaner is almost 100% not in their lingo etc.Try to find a Hyundai auto rebuilt or used, good luck! The prices you are throwing out on a 48re sound way to high.Lots of THEM out there already.I haven't priced one but Cadallic Northstar stuff is no where near those prices and their not inexspensive to repair.Call DTT or Ats.A guy I know just did a complete Suncoast auto trans in his 99 dually for right around $3k.

I just got rid of my Toy Tundra to get a new Dodge. I can speak first hand that their quality is not what it used to be now that the vehicles are being built in America. (Hovismo) on this site can back that up too. I went through 6 sets of front and back brakes @ 70,000 mi with no fix to the vibration upon braking. There are countless transmission problems, electrical etc. I think that foreign and domestics are a lot closer than they used to be. I still think the Japs have a edge but not much. I wouldn't be so confident that Toyota can build a better one ton right out of the box, but time will tell. I believe the automotive industry as a whole is taking a turn for the worse as far as passing costs on to the consumer. I can't believe how stripped these trucks come now and how many little odds an ends you have to buy to make them complete.... I hope my new truck lasts for the next 10 years cause I am sure tired of wasting money on vehicles!!!

Well I handled service on Datsun/Nissan 14 years.Once it was NISSAN and we moved to a MALL we had 24 techs.20 did trans repairs, autos. We rotated the repairs of auto trans.Once in a while we had 12 to 15 toredown and going back togather in the same week. They averaged $2400 to $3200 each. Some were totaled so they went for $3200 up for new units. So the same ratio on Isuzu and Mazda.Mazda being the MOST exspensive to repair by far.Toyota has a GOOD reman program for engines and transmissions,Wonder Why?Honda is known for the shortest lived engines compared to Toyota and Nissan. At the D.C.dealer I was at for 4 years handled several used Hondas with less then 100k on them and they smoked had high oil comsumtion issues.Subed to the neighboring Honda dealer and was told NOT unusal and got rings replaced in car.About a 2 day turnaround.Said they did a fair number of them. That fixed them.In a NUT SHELL they all break. But in my experience the imports have always been MORE costly parts and labor to repair.Sometimes by quite a lot.

Not a statement. The truth. Not something I made up.Came from auto trade to the industary news journals.Any techs that have been working JAP stuff for 20 years will usually confirm this.In owner surveys Honda ranked number 1 in the first 50k.In the second 50k (100k mark)Toyota came in number 1.In the over 100k Nissan rated number 1,Toyotas number 2 and Honda number 3.This included engine and trans longevity. The guys at the HONDA dealer were REAL familar with re ring and valve grinds on them.We at the D.C.dealer or the Nissan dealer WERE NOT.

Years ago the Jap cars far out shined the domistics. It was true a domistic at 100k felt worn out.A few models still do.BUT in the last decade thats changed.Lots of domistics with BUNCHES of miles still drive and feel good.Talk to on the road salesmen.Lots of Caravans,Chev Caprices,Crown Vics,Astro Vans,Aerostarts,Gran Cherokees with 250k plus on them.Lots of Caddys also. With out having heads pulled etc.Wrote up many a DODGE GAS truck with over 200k and no major repairs done.Still drove good also.

That is a ridiculous statement. I have three Honda's in my family, #1 w/135K, #2 w/143K and #3 w/105K, not one of them burns a drop of oil and they all run perfect. How many domestic cars can you say this about? Most Honda's will go 200K + without any problems. Even the ones where the kid's BOMB them. The key to a Honda's longevity is to change your oil every 3K and they will outlast just about any other car out there. And they will definetley outlast ALL domestic cars, not to mention the resale value of a Honda is much better than any domestic.

Additionally, go drive a domestic with 100K and then go drive a Honda with 100K, the Honda feels and drives like a new car, the domestic drives like a piece $hit.
DITTO! Sold my first Honda that I got used to my friend at 150K 5 speed it now has over 250K on it and he says its the BEST car they have ever owned. "He did replace the clutch at the 200K mark. I bought a used 96 Accord auto with 76K on it now has 130K bought the wife a brand new 2002 auto Civic. All of these cars have factory shocks on them and they still handle and ride great. Also I cannot say how nice it is to drive a vehicle with a FANTASTIC auto tranny. The Honda trannys shift beautiful and always keep the car in the proper rpm range even going up or down hills/mountains. NO dumb A** button pushing into and out of OD “don’t drive it in OD under 50 MPH or else” no "mystery" switches etc. Come on, this is the 21st century and DC should have a tranny to match the times and engine. As far as burning oil any vehicle that is not taken car of will take a dump sooner or later. Cant wait till Honda has a real truck with a Cummins and a Honda auto tranny.
